The nighttime brings not only a disadvantage in Palworld due to imposing darkness on the player to obscure their vision when exploring or gathering resources but also a threat due to mechanics such as Coldness, especially if there is no armor equipped on your character.
For this reason, the Hip Lantern is one of the most valuable Key Items in the game, as this single item will remedy all of these problems. To get the Hip Lantern in Palworld, you will first need to unlock the recipe for this item using Technology Points. This can be done once you have reached player level 22.
However, unlike regular level-up item recipes, which are unlocked with the use of Technology Points, the Hip Lantern is only unlocked by spending Ancient Technology Points. This means that you'll need to participate in capturing or defeating some bosses or Rayne Syndicate Towers around the map to acquire a decent stash, allowing you to unlock the recipe for the Hip Lantern sooner rather than later.

After unlocking the recipe for the Hip Lantern in Palworld, this item can be crafted at a High-Quality Workbench. However, you will need an assortment of materials to craft this item, as listed below:
Hip Lantern Build Recipe:
- Ingot x 20
- Wood x 10
- Flame Organ x 10
- Ancient Civilization Parts x 10
While Ingot and Wood can be sourced by harvesting natural materials around the world, Flame Organs are dropped when you kill or capture certain Fire Type Pals. Lastly, Ancient Civilization Parts are earned by taking down bosses such as Alpha Pals, which will be scattered around the map. Because of this, there may be a slight grind needed to acquire all the necessary items for building the Hip Lantern, but the value that this item brings makes this time spent more than worth it.
To use the Hip Lantern in Palworld, you simply need to finish crafting the item and pick it up from the Workbench. Once you do so, the Hip Lantern will automatically be added to your Key Items, and worn on your character's hip. Now when you're out and about exploring in the darkness, your character will automatically emanate a glow that illuminates nearby surroundings, eliminating your need for a torch. This will also free up an extra slot among your equipped items to have another weapon or tool on hand, such as the Grappling Gun.
