Palworld's survival mechanics mean that both pals and players need to eat regularly. In the very early game, foraging for berries can meet these needs, but as players explore farther afield from their base and catch more Pals, growing food becomes a necessity. Pals with the Gather trait can harvest crops from plantations or gather plants while exploring with the player's party.

Grass-type Pals, which are strong against Ground-types, tend to be the best at farming in the base because many of them can both plant and gather crops, doing the bulk of the work required to keep food production up and running.

Palworld: Best Combat Partner Skills (& The Pals That Have Them)

Across the 137 Pals you can find in Palworld, some Partner Skills are better than others. Here are some of the best combat-oriented skills overall.

10 Cattiva

Gathering Level 1

Palworld: Cattiva

Cattiva is a versatile Pal for the early game. This Neutral-type Pal can gather plants, mine ore, transport goods, and craft items. Since they are found in abundance in the starting area, players can make use of their varied skillset from the very beginning of the game.

With only Level 1 Gathering, Cattiva can't work as fast as some other Pals, but having such a wide variety of work suitability makes them a good labor force for the player's first plantation or two until more specialized Pals are caught.

9 Tanzee

Gathering Level 1; Planting Level 1

Palworld-Tanzee-Gun-Fire

Tanzees are good Pals to have in the early game, both for their great Partner Skill and for working at the base. Like Cattiva, players can easily find Tanzees early in the game when they are starting to build their Pal labor force.

Tanzees can plant seeds and gather crops, so they can take care of the entire farming process except for watering. This also makes them ideal early game Pals for gathering, since having a Tanzee and any Water type Pal will keep the base stocked with fresh berries.

8 Lifmunk

Gathering Level 1; Planting Level 1

Lifmunks can be found in many regions near the original starting area. They are versatile Pals that can do a huge number of jobs around the base, including medicine production, which is a rare Skill in the early game. Their Partner Skill, Lifmunk Recoil, also makes them a good Pal to have in combat.

Because Lifmunks have so many work traits — Gathering, Planting, Medicine Production, Handiwork, and Lumbering — they are great Pals to assign to the base. After planting seeds, they can go on to other tasks before coming back to gather the matured crops.

7 Robinquill

Gathering Level 2; Planting Level 1

Robinquills are versatile Pals that are great assets to any burgeoning Pal workforce. They can only be found in one area of the world, although the search is definitely worth a player's time. They can do six different jobs around the base, which makes them well-rounded workers. They are good in the party as well, since traveling with a Robinquill increases damage done to weak points.

In terms of gathering plants, Robinquills are faster than many of the early game Pals, since their Gathering trait is Level 2. They can also plant seeds themselves, so the only aspect of farming that a Robinquill can't do is to water the seeds. Given the other tasks that Robinquills are suited for, this isn't really a drawback, because they can do other work before coming back around to quickly harvest the crops.

6 Vaelet

Gathering Level 2; Planting Level 2

vaelet palworld

Vaelets are rare grass Pals that are difficult to find. There is an Alpha Vaelet that players can fight and capture near the center of the map, but the only other location where Vaelet spawns is a relatively small island along the very southern edge of the map. To get there, players have to ride a flying or swimming Pal.

Palworld: Best Areas To Explore In The First Few Hours

Palworld's map is gigantic, as the Palpagos Islands have a varied number of different biomes and areas. These are the best areas to explore first.

Once captured, Vaelet is extremely useful. With their Gathering and Planting traits both at Level 2, these Pals can finish two thirds of the crop growing process faster than many other Pals. They also have the highest Medicine Production level in the game, which makes them ideal for crafting medicines, while another Pal waters the crops in between Vaelet's planting and gathering.

5 Petallia

Gathering Level 2; Planting Level 3

The grass Pal Petallia

Petallia is only found in Wilderness Sanctuary Number One, the island at the far southern edge of the map. Petallia's skills make the long trek worthwhile. Petallia has five different work traits and a unique Partner Skill called Blessing of the Flower Spirit. When activated, Petallia heals the player for a set amount of HP.

In addition to their helpful Partner Skill, Petallias are good to keep around as workers. With Planting at level 3, they can sow a plantation very quickly. This is complemented by their Level 2 Gathering skill, which helps them harvest the crops once they've been watered and had time to grow.

4 Elizabee

Gathering Level 2; Planting Level 2

Palworld_Elizabee and Beegarde

Elizabee is a Grass type Pal that is essentially the chosen queen bee of the Beeguardes accompanying her. The bond between the two types of Pals is strong enough that even after being captured, an Elizabee's strength is bolstered by having Beeguardes in the party.

With Planting and Gathering at Level 2, Elizabee is good for planting and gathering crops. They also have Medicine Production and Handiwork Level 2, so they are more than decent at many essential tasks to be done around the base. Capturing an Elizabee along with her Beeguarde is a great way to bolster a player's party or workforce.

3 Lyleen

Gathering Level 2; Planting Level 4

A screenshot from Pocket Pair's Palworld, depicting in-game Pals Bristla and Lyleen.

Lyleen is the only Pal in the game with Level 4 Planting. Since no other Pal can sow seeds as fast as Lyleen, this Pal is ideal to use in bases with lots of plantations. They are also one of the few Pals to have a Partner Skill that heals the player, so it may be tough for some players to decide on whether to use them as healers or to oversee farming.

Only a few Pals have Gathering skill beyond Level 2, so the disparity between Lyleen's Planting and Gathering skill is not as big as it may seem. This combination of skills make them nearly perfect for making a plantation run at peak efficiency.

2 Verdash

Gathering Level 3; Planting Level 2

Players can only capture Verdash in Wilderness Sanctuary Number 2, an island on the western edge of the map. When fighting Verdash, the player moves faster and their attacks deal Grass damage. Granting two passive bonuses is a unique way that this rare Pal helps out.

Beyond granting advantages in combat, Verdash has the second-highest Gathering skill in the game, at Level 3. This makes them ideal to use for gathering plants as only one other Pal can outpace them. Since they, like so many Grass Pals, have Planting, Lumbering, and Handiwork skills, Verdashes are phenomenal workers.

1 Frostallion Noct

Gathering Level 4

Frostallion is one of the four legendary Pals. By breeding this Level 50 Pal with Helzephyr, the player can hatch a Dark type version of it called Frostallion Noct. This unique Pal is the only Pal with a Level 4 Gathering skill, making it the best gatherer in the game.

By breeding Pals that they want, players can focus on optimizing the various tasks around the base. Frostallion Nocts are only suited for gathering. Since players can only breed them after capturing a max level legendary Pal, specializing in Pals with peak skills is a great way to make the late game as efficient as possible.
