How to Cook in Palia

A kitchen in Palia

Being a life simulation game, Palia offers players the fun of collecting ingredients and cooking food. But it isn’t there simply for fun; it serves important functions too. For one, it can increase your Focus. Certain quests, such as Lost in the Wind, also require you to cook specific meals.

To begin your cooking journey in Palia, the first step is to create a fire, specifically a campfire. To unlock the campfire, you will have to speak to Reth during the initial quest, “Welcome to Palia.” In this quest, he guides players through the basics of cooking in the game.

Here are the materials that you’ll need to make the campfire in Palia:

  • 5 x Sapwood
  • 2 x Flint
  • 16 x Stone
  • 10 x Plant Fiber.

You can gather Sapwood from trees found in the Kilima Valley or Juniper Trees in Bahari Bay. Juniper trees are easily identifiable by their orange leaves. Flint and Stone can be acquired from mining nodes located in both Kilima Valley and Bahari Bay. And lastly, cut down bushes to get Plant Fibers.

Reth, an NPC from Palia engaged in dialogue with the player

After the conversation with Reth in the ‘Welcome to Palia’ quest, you'll initially only be able to cook Grilled Mushrooms, but you'll unlock more recipes as you advance through the game.

Once you reach cooking level two, you'll have the opportunity to unlock the Standard Stove and Prep Station. For the Standard Stove, you will need 12 Stone Bricks, five Ceramic, and two Copper Bar. For Prep Station; two Copper Bar, 12 Ceramic, and 12 Sapwood. As you level up, you will unlock more crafting options.

Cooking is fairly easy in Palia and each crafter comes with its own set of recipes, which you can see by simply interacting with the item. You can also check the ingredients needed for each dish and gather them if you don't already have them. You will have anywhere from one to four minutes to complete a recipe, and cooking with friends can help speed up the process.
