The massively-multiplayer online game Palia promises a unique experience inspired by the comfortable gameplay loop of beloved cozy games including Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley. It also takes inspiration from other games, including Tears of the Kingdom and Genshin Impact, which have treated players to the wonderful experience of paragliding. Naturally, the Glider is one of the first accessories that players will want to obtain in their Palia adventure.

It is possible to obtain the materials required to craft the Glider early on, as they are sold at stores in exchange for Gold. However, the player will not have the opportunity to actually craft this essential accessory until they have progressed through the game’s main story quest. The player will unlock many recipes and Crafters, the game’s specific workbenches, along the way, including those necessary to create the materials required to craft the Glider. Here’s what players need to do to get the Glider in Palia.

How to Start the Quest “Like A Bird”

Completing the quest Ancient Battery in Palia.

The quest to obtain the Glider is unlocked through progressing in Palia’s main story arc involving the strange device unearthed in the player’s farming plot. Upon completing the quest “Ancient Battery” at the ruins near where they arrived at Palia, the player will obtain a new quest, “Like a Bird.”

How to Complete the Quest “Like A Bird” and Get The Glider

Talking to Najuma in Palia.

This quest “Like A Bird” tasks the player with heading to Bahari Bay, the zone located to the east of Kilima Village, and speaking to a girl named Najuma. Najuma is the daughter of Hodari, from whom players improve their Mining ability, and can be found in a workshop near their home.

When the player speaks with Najuma, she tells them she can make them a Glider if they bring her the following materials:

  • 3 Sapwood Plank
  • 2 Fabric
  • 5 Leather

If the player wishes to buy both the Leather and Fabric required for “Like A Bird,” instead of crafting it, they will need to spend a total of 680 Gold, which isn’t too difficult to obtain by hunting, foraging, and fishing then selling their loot at Zeki’s General Store.

How to get Sapwood Plank

Using the Sawmill Crafter in Palia.

Sapwood Planks are made by placing Sapwood into a Sawmill Crafter. Each Sapwood Plank takes one minute in real-time to craft and requires one piece of Sapwood. The recipe to create the Basic Sawmill Crafter can be purchased from Ashura after reaching Foraging Level 2. The recipe to craft Sapwood Planks is automatically learned.

How to get Fabric

Fabric Loom Recipe for sale in Palia.

Fabric can be crafted using the Fabric Loom, a specialized Crafter which can make both Fabric and Leather. This Crafter requires quite a bit of effort to obtain, but as it is needed to craft both materials, the player will want to work toward constructing this Crafter as soon as possible.

Planting Cotton Seeds in Palia.

Fabric is made at the Fabric Loom by using Cotton, which is grown from Cotton Seeds. These seeds are bought from the General Store in Kilima Village at 40 Gold per bag. It takes 5 in-game days for the Cotton to grow. For players who prefer a faster approach, Fabric can be bought directly from Tiff’s Furniture Store for 190 Gold per piece.

How to get Leather

Hunting Sernak in Palia.

Leather is crafted using the Fabric Loom as well, utilizing Sernuk Hide obtained from hunting the deer-like creatures roaming the wilds of Palia. The player should use the bow and arrow to defeat Sernuk and collect the loot bags which they drop, which can contain their hides.

Again, if the player prefers to temporarily bypass the cumbersome investment of the Fabric Loom and wants to just rush to crafting the Glider as soon as possible, the player can purchase Leather at Tish’s Furniture Store for 60 Gold per piece.

How to Get the Glider

Building the Glider in Palia.

Once the player has obtained the necessary materials, they need to return to Najuma in Bahari Bay and turn in the items to complete the quest “Like A Bird” and she will reward the player with the Glider. To use the Glider in Palia, simply hold the space bar after jumping off a cliff or ledge. While gliding, the player can change direction with the WASD keys, the same as when moving on the ground.

Palia is currently available in Open Beta on PC and will release on PC and Nintendo Switch at a later date.
