Materials for sale at Furniture Store in Palia.

There are two main ways to obtain both Leather and Fabric in Palia. You can either craft them, or you purchase these finished materials from one of Kilima Village’s stores. To craft Leather and Fabric, you’ll first have to unlock the Fabric Loom, one of Palia’s many Crafter devices.

Crafters are different types of workbenches that you can place in your housing plot and use to create various items in Palia. You will gradually unlock recipes to craft these devices, including the Fabric Loom, early in your Palia experience by progressing through the game's main quest series.

However, the Fabric Loom is not unlocked outright. Instead, you must first obtain the recipe and then craft the Fabric Loom. Therefore, you will need to sell unneeded materials at the General Store, or using the shipping box outside your housing plot, to obtain the Gold necessary to purchase the recipe to make the Fabric Loom.

You can earn Gold by selling materials gathered through hunting, foraging, and fishing in the waters of Palia .

Hunting Sernak in Palia

To craft Leather using the Fabric Loom in Palia, you’ll need the following material:

  • 1 Sernuk Hide

Sernuk Hides can be obtained by defeating the deerlike Sernuk, which can be found running in the wilderness throughout the region. Sernuk startle easily, so you’ll want to defeat them at range using the bow and arrow. When defeated, they will disappear and leave behind a loot bag that can contain Sernuk Hide and other materials.

It takes five minutes for the Fabric Loom to process one Sernuk Hide into a piece of Leather. You can also purchase Leather at Tish’s Furniture Store for 60 Gold, or Sernuk Hides for 26 Gold.

  • 1 Cotton

Cotton is obtained by purchasing Cotton Seeds, planting them in the housing plot’s garden, and cultivating them until fully grown. Cotton Seeds can be purchased from the General Store in Kilima Village for 40 Gold per bag.

Once you have unlocked the Seed Collector device, you can obtain Cotton Seeds by processing Cotton using this Crafter.

Cotton is ready to harvest after 5 in-game days have passed. While you can purchase Cotton at Badruu’s Family Farm store for 180 Gold, there is not much reason to do so. Instead, you can purchase Fabric at the Furniture Store for 190 Gold per piece.

To unlock the Fabric Loom, you must complete the main story quest “Learning The Ropes,” in which you must speak with Kenli regarding the construction of your own house. Kenli sends you to speak with Tish, who runs Kilima Village’s furniture store.

Upon speaking with Tish, she will teach you a handful of furniture crafting recipes, including recipes for items that use wood easily gathered with the Makeshift Axe. Once you’ve unlocked these furniture recipes, you can start working toward unlocking the Fabric Loom. The recipe for the Fabric Loom can be purchased from Tish after you have reached Furniture Skill Level 2.

To level up your Furniture Skill, you can craft any of the furniture recipes learned from Tish. You can check their current skill level by opening the character menu and checking the "Skill Levels" section at the bottom left. You craft any pieces of furniture you’d like to increase your skill, as it appears they all give an equal amount of skill experience.

Furniture will not take up space in your storage , so there’s no need to worry about crafting too many of any one piece. Therefore, you can choose to focus on pieces that are easy to craft, but should prioritize those required for the main quest “Spiffy It Up.”

Learning a new furniture recipe in Palia.

After crafting a piece of furniture, you are given the opportunity to select and learn a new recipe. You will want to continue crafting furniture items until you have earned enough Skill experience to reach Furniture Skill Level 2.

Upon reaching Furniture Skill Level 2, you can either return to Tish and speak with her or interact with the cash register in her Furniture Store. You can now purchase the crafting recipe for the Fabric Loom at a cost of 100 Gold. Crafting the Fabric Loom requires the following materials:

  • 15 Sapwood Plank
  • 20 Plant Fiber
  • 2 Copper Bar

You can purchase the recipes to construct these Crafters once you have placed the framework for the Harvest House, as the materials made by each of these Crafters are also required to construct the house. You will also need to meet necessary Skill requirements.

  • The Sawmill is required to create Sapwood Planks. The recipe to create the Basic Sawmill can be purchased from Ashura after reaching Foraging Level 2. The player can craft Sapwood Planks immediately upon placing the Sawmill Crafter.
  • The Smelter is required to create Copper Bars and Ceramic. The recipe to create the Basic Smelter can be purchased from Hodari after reaching Mining Level 2. The recipes for Copper Bars and Ceramic must also be purchased from Hodari.

Once you’ve obtained the necessary materials and have crafted and placed the Fabric Loom in your housing plot, you can craft Leather and Fabric in Palia.
