Despite being out for nearly five years, Blizzard continues to flex its creative muscles with the various skins available to earn in Overwatch. They range from narrative-based looks, such as Reaper during his Blackwatch days, to the outright strange, like grillmaster Soldier: 76, and even looks based on Blizzards other games, like Reinhardt's new StarCraft-themed skin. However, one artist shared their idea to cross the hero-shooter with Games Workshop's grim dark vision of the future.

Finnish artist Mikko Kautto regularly shares their artwork online via ArtStation, taking clear influence in their personal work Japanese anime and various video games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Fortnite. They also provide the artwork for Mr. Autofire, a hero-shooter available to download for mobile on iOS and Android.

However, one of their most recent works what Overwatch's Brigitte were to make her way into Warhammer 40k. Kautto's art envisions the support hero as part of the Sisters of Battle, one of the military divisions serving the Imperium of Man in the Warhammer 40k universe. Brigitte retains her armored look from Overwatch, though the design trades her cleaner look for the ornate, gothic design typically seen in Warhammer 40k.

As far as crossover's go, Battle Sister Brigitte is arguably one of the most unique possible as they could not be further part aesthetically or thematically.

Overwatch is a visually bright world favoring vibrant colors and an overall clean look best seen in the game's roster of heroes. The vibrant aesthetic also reflects a world hopeful about the future, despite the various conflicts across the game's lore such as the Omnic invasions and terrorist attacks by Talon.

Warhammer 40k, on the other hand, is a visually dark world where destruction and cultural decay are prevalent despite the technologically advanced societies in the universe. And while Overwatch is a world filled with hope, 40k is one of darkness and danger where humanity is in near constant danger from the forces of Chaos, various alien species like the Orks and Tau Empire, or its own internal turmoil.

As eye-catching as Kautto's art is, this is the sort of crossover Overwatch or Warhammer fans are unlikely to see. Blizzard already has its own darker sci-fi universe to pull from in StarCraft, which has taken clear influence from Warhammer 40k. One example is the similar design of StarCraft's hulking Terran Marines and Warhammer 40k's Space Marines. StarCraft isn't as thematically dark, either, instead melding aspects of sci-fi with fantasy and westerns to give the universe an identity all its own.

That said, never say never and Kautto's art could be a glimpse of what could come should Blizzard and Games Workshop's universes cross-pollinate.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
