Overwatch fans are usually pretty vocal about the things that they do and do not want from the hero shooter. As such, it is not too surprising that some feedback has been provided ahead of the next Overwatch Archives event.

While many fans are currently experiencing Overwatch’s Year of the Tiger event and collecting or criticizing its new outfits, some have already turned their attention to Archives 2022. Archives used to be one of the most anticipated events for the game, as it brought new co-op missions and outfits based on characters’ backstories to the community. Last year, though, no new missions came, and lore-specific skins were nowhere to be seen. Clearly, gamers do not want history to repeat itself when the event drops in a few months’ time.

While it is unlikely for Overwatch’s next Archives event to get a new co-op mission, as Blizzard is likely more focused on the sequel’s PvE campaign, lore-based skins are a possibility - especially after the reaction to the last batch of outfits. Not only was the “Karen Mercy” skin criticized for its design, but players were let down by the decision to focus on history-focused outfits for the characters that saw them dressing like soldiers from old conflicts. While the skins were not bad per se, players like Spktra want the Archives event to provide new insight into the characters through outfits tied to their lore.

In their Reddit post, Spktra highlighted six potential lore skins that the Overwatch community could receive instead of more history-based cosmetics. Scientist Sigma is taken from his character intro, Squire-in-training for Brigitte looks at her sparring with Reinhardt, and “Wanted” Ashe gives her a casual attire. Talon Moira and Reaper are also requested, as is a stone statue based on Zenyatta. All these looks stand out from what is in the game, with the most likely additions being Brigitte’s training outfit and Sigma’s scientist attire. With both outfits being worn by the characters in their origin stories, they would fit well in the next Archives event.

Thus far, the post has received thousands of upvotes and hundreds of comments supporting the idea. While they believe the history theme will return once again, AForce5223 likes lore skins more than a majority of what is offered and hopes that make a comeback. They also recommend alternate universe outfits like D.Va’s Junker skin, which gives her a post-apocalyptic attire similar to Junkrat and Roadhog. For now, players will have to wait and see what route Blizzard will take with the upcoming event.

As shown by the discussion regarding an event that is still months away, Overwatch’s cosmetics are very important to the community. Hopefully, this year’s Archives skins are received better than the ones from last year’s iteration of the event.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
