As players go through Overwatch, they will begin to level up. While this won't give players any kind of advantage during matches from a mechanical sense, levelling up is the best way to get more of Overwatch's loot boxes full of special cosmetic items.

With there being well over 2,000 different cosmetic items in Overwatch, players looking to increase their collection will want to level up fast. While level experience can be obtained from just playing the game normally, there are some things that players can do to get more in less time.

Levelling up will require more and more experience until a player reaches level 22. From that point on, players will need 20,000 experience for each level up. After reaching level 100, players will get a promotion, and will get an upgrade to their portrait border in-game. This border is viewable by all players.

Play Competitive

Different modes in Overwatch give different amounts of experience. The normal amount of experience comes in Quick Play with the amount given in that mode considered 100 percent. This percentage usually is the same for the majority of arcade modes, but certain arcade modes give either 80 percent experience or sometimes even 40 percent experience.

The mode in Overwatch that consistently gives the most amount of experiences is Competitive. This mode gives 115 percent experience as a base, alongside other bonuses usually given for the length of the matches compared to other modes.

Play in Groups

When playing in a group, players will get 20 percent more experience for every match they complete. This can be especially helpful when playing consecutive matches with groups, as consecutive matches will also award players with 300 more experience.

Groups in Overwatch do not need to be made up of friends. In addition to the group up feature at the end of rounds, players can party up with other players in the group search menu. This is especially helpful for those who want support in competitive matches.

Don't Leave in the Middle of Matches

Leaving in the middle of matches is a pain for everyone involved. It not only leaves the team at a temporary or permanent disadvantage, it also had bad effects on the leaving player because of Overwatch's Leaver Penalty.

If players leave in the middle of enough matches, they will get a harsh Leaver Penalty that reduces the amount of experience players get from playing all matches by 75 percent until they play enough to completion. Because of this, playing wanting to level up fast should never disconnect from an in-progress match unless they absolutely have to.

Overwatch is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
