The Overwatch League is a big deal in the world of eSports as competitive teams from across the globe compete to be the preeminent force in the game. To celebrate the hard work of pro players, the developers at Blizzard design a skin each year for the Overwatch team that manages to take home the title at the end of the Overwatch League season. Last year was no exception, as the developers recently revealed the championship skin for 2021.

In a YouTube video posted on March 15, the championship skin was announced for the 2021 Overwatch League champions, the Shanghai Dragons. The outfit was made for the DPS character Sombra and was called Zhulong. Based on the name of the eSports team, the Dragons, this new skin had a stunning serpentine theme. It is currently on sale until March 28 for those wanting to want to add their collection of Overwatch cosmetics.

As part of the reveal video, players received a thorough look at the striking Zhulong Sombra skin made for the victorious Shanghai Dragons. The outfit was predominately made up of shades of red, as it was intended to reflect the fiery appearance of a dragon. Several highlights of the design included scales on the arms and legs of the outfit, along with a crown that had a pair of dragon horns. Another nice touch was the inclusion of the Shanghai Dragons logo tattooed onto Sombra's back. In addition, the dragon theme carried over to the SMGs wielded by the DPS character.

In addition to showing off the skin in a YouTube video, the Lead Concept Artist on Overwatch, David Kang, provided some details behind the creation process. According to the artist, lots of research went into the design before a concept drawing was even made. When making the dragon art, he noted that it was important that the design stayed authentic to the Chinese culture it was based on. After doing preliminary research, he pointed out that a rough sketch of the skin was made, which was then refined by adding more details. This same process was then repeated for the weapon skins as well.

The reveal of this new Legendary Zhulong Sombra skin comes shortly after the Overwatch League announced several more details about the upcoming 2022 season. In the recent update, the league revealed that the game would be shifting to an early version of Overwatch 2. This meant that teams would be composed of 5 players. In addition, the new character Sojourn would be playable along with the Overwatch 2 game type called Push. With the start of the competition only a couple of months away, it will be interesting to see who will be getting a new championship skin at the end of the season.

Overwatch is available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
