The Lunar New Year falls on January 22, but Overwatch 2 is getting the party started early. The game has kicked off its Lunar New Year event, allowing players to earn a number of rewards, including a Legendary Echo skin.

Many Overwatch 2 fans expressed disappointment regarding the Battle For Olympus event, claiming that it required extreme amounts of grinding on a single arcade mode. Blizzard may or may not have listened to the outcry, but the Lunar New Year 2023 event does look quite different.

Instead of revolving around one arcade mode, the Lunar New Year event incorporates three into its challenges. Overwatch 2 players can earn various rewards along the way, with the top prize being the Legendary Kkachi skin for Echo.

Overwatch 2 Lunar New Year 2023 Event Challenges

There are a total of five challenges for Overwatch 2’s Lunar New Year 2023 event. Unlike Battle For Olympus, this event incorporates three different arcade modes: Capture the Flag, CTF Blitz, and Bounty Hunter. Players need to complete four challenges in order to earn the Kkachi skin for Echo.

Here is the list of challenges and any cosmetic rewards they offer:

  • Catch the Rabbit - Capture the flag in CTF or CTF Blitz
  • Auspicious Victories - Win eight games in CTF Blitz (souvenir reward)
  • Lucky Rabbit - Win six games in CTF or Competitive CTF (name card reward)
  • Mark of the Rabbit - Win 10 games of Bounty Hunter (spray reward)
  • Sixth Time’s the Charm - Eliminate the bounty target six times

When players complete any two of these challenges, they receive a Lucky Pouch weapon charm reward. Once players complete four, they get the Kkachi skin for Echo.

While winning 10 games of Bounty Hunter is a fairly tall order, players shouldn’t have too much difficulty completing the other four in order to get the top reward. On top of that, Overwatch 2’s Capture the Flag mode is one of the better seasonal game modes, according to many players. All in all, players should have a much easier time than getting the hundreds upon hundreds of kills needed to complete the Battle For Olympus event.

How to Get Masked Dancer Moira Skin

Players can get the Legendary Masked Dancer skin for Moira by watching Overwatch 2 streams on Twitch during the 2023 Lunar New Year event. This requires players to link their Twitch account and their Battle.net accounts and to watch Overwatch 2 streams that have drops enabled.

After watching two hours of content, players have the ability to claim a The Lion Roars victory pose for Moira. After claiming this drop, players need to watch another four hours of Overwatch 2 streams to get the Masked Dancer skin. Players need to claim the victory pose drop in order to start earning hours towards the skin.

Alongside this, anyone that logs into Overwatch 2 during the event will have a Year of the Rabbit player icon added to their account.

When Does Overwatch 2’s Lunar New Year Event End?

The Overwatch 2 Lunar New Year Event runs from January 17 to February 6.

For players that don’t yet have good skins for Moira and Echo, this is a great opportunity to do so. These skins are not normally available in the shop or available for purchase with Legacy Credits, so players should make sure they don’t miss out.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
