  • The development team will provide more details about Roadhog's rework in the weeks ahead, allowing players to prepare for the upcoming changes.

As Overwatch 2 players are waiting for the release of Season 7 and the various hero changes coming with this new competitive season, the development team reassured Roadhog players about which abilities this tank hero will keep after the character's rework goes live. This rework should bring various changes to the overall gameplay of Roadhog to adjust the balance of the overall hero pool of Overwatch 2.

Despite being one of the most popular tanks in Overwatch 2, Roadhog has been absent from the higher ranks of competitive games for a while now due to the various nerfs he received since Season 5. A few months ago, Blizzard confirmed that Roadhog would receive a rework to better adjust his abilities and give him a new place within the Overwatch 2 meta, without giving players more information as to what they could expect for the future of this character. Five months after the initial announcement of Roadhog’s rework in Overwatch 2, these changes will go live with the release of the Season 7 mid-season patch this October.

Alec Dawson, Lead Hero Designer on Overwatch 2, shared more information about the upcoming rework for Roadhog. Following an official message on Blizzard’s website, the developer confirmed on Reddit that Roadhog would keep both his Chain Hook and Take a Breather after the rework. These two abilities are at the core of Roadhog’s gameplay, with the Chain Hook letting the tank hero catch runaway targets and bring them back to close range while Take a Breather restores part of Roadhog's health over a brief period of time.

This announcement reassured Roadhog’s players, who had no idea what to expect from this upcoming rework. It seems that while the tank hero will keep these two abilities, the rework may change how his other techniques work, such as Roadhog’s ultimate ability Whole Hog. The Overwatch 2 development team promised more details about Roadhog’s upcoming rework in the weeks ahead so that players can prepare for the changes to come.

Roadhog is not the only hero to receive a rework in the upcoming months, as the Overwatch 2 team also teased modifications to Sombra’s gameplay. While the DPS hero will keep her current hacker identity and playstyle, the development team is tweaking her abilities to make her more committed when engaging in a fight. They didn’t provide any additional information about what’s to come for Sombra, so players will have to wait for her rework with the launch of Season 7 of Overwatch 2 on October 10.

Overwatch 2 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
