A fan of Overwatch 2 asked other players what changes they want for support characters to make the role more satisfying. The replies they got give some insight into the feelings of support players in Overwatch 2, particularly how their experience compares to damage and tank players.

Support is one of three roles that players choose in Overwatch 2, with their duty usually being healing or boosting the abilities of their teammates. These characters, compared to the other roles, are not designed to deal or take as much damage, though they all have their own offensive abilities. However, some players still utilize some of these characters to inflict damage, such as Overwatch 2 support character Moira often being used to attack the enemy team rather than heal teammates.

A recent post on the Overwatch 2 subreddit asked what changes they would like to see for the game's current roster of support characters. Amid a few comments making jokes about making them invincible, many players lamented the underpowered nature of support characters who get neglected by their teammates and killed instantly by enemy players. This kind of situation is sometimes referred to as the "support experience." A popular sentiment is that these roles have gotten comparatively less attention from the game's developers, an understandable position given that Blizzard recently hinted at upcoming changes to Overwatch 2 tanks and damage characters like Ramattra and Tracer, but not for any support characters.

Another tangential complaint, particularly from competitive players, is matchmaking with people who seemingly don't know how to play certain roles or who make things harder for their support teammates. One player with the username Sambucax had a tank teammate who tried to fight the enemy team on their own, only to get killed immediately and then bash their healer teammate for not healing them. Another user suggested that these matchmaking issues could be from new players who do not yet understand the roles and waste their abilities, an especially big problem as support ultimates in Overwatch 2 generally serve to boost the abilities and health of the team.

Although every role did get a new hero at Overwatch 2's launch, the response from fans shows that they are still unsatisfied with the current state of the support role. This could be helped with the addition of a new support character in Overwatch 2, but the current roster still needs some kind of update based on player feedback. As things stand now, it is likely that fewer players would want to choose this role, which could severely disrupt the game's balancing. Overwatch 2 has continued to be a success and has already received a number of updates, but the community has made it clear that support players could use some help of their own.

Overwatch 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
