Overwatch 2 has a wide variety of cosmetics to collect, but skins are undoubtedly the most sought after item. Over the years, there have been some truly incredible costumes for the game’s cast, allowing players to equip alternate looks ranging from a demon to a god to a nutcracker. However, not all Overwatch 2 characters get equal love in the skin department.
Part of the favoritism for certain Overwatch 2 heroes likely comes down to their designs, as a cyborg ninja like Genji provides plenty of opportunities for flashy skins. Popularity also plays a role, as a hero like Mercy who is mained by many casual players or the series’ mascot Tracer will always be go-to targets for skins. However, this only makes the lack of incredible outfits for the Damage hero Sojourn more confusing.
Sojourn Feels Like The Odd Woman Out Among Overwatch 2’s New Heroes
Sojourn’s skins are relatively basic, with the best looks being a futuristic cyber detective from Overwatch 2’s Season 1 cyberpunk theme and a Rambo-inspired look from the same Season's battle pass. Since then, the lack of love for Sojourn in the cosmetic department has been apparent, with players constantly hoping that more exciting outfits will appear in the shop or Battle Pass. Despite the Space Opera theme and upcoming Starwatch event of Season 4 resulting in so many stunning outfits for the cast, Sojourn has seemingly been left out.
What makes this so confusing is that Blizzard has positioned Sojourn as Overwatch 2’s main star, with her seen in plenty of promotional material and key art for the game. Beyond that, she was meta and borderline overpowered for the first few months of the sequel’s life, dominating in the Overwatch League Finals and competitive play. This made many players want to learn Sojourn, guaranteeing there would be a large player base interested in buying potential skins. For whatever reason, though, Sojourn still has a low skin count with very few must-have outfits.
This is particularly problematic considering how well the other new Overwatch 2 heroes have been treated. Junker Queen received a terrific Kiss-inspired look in addition to a cool executioner outfit, while Ramattra became Poseidon and was given a biohazard design. Kiriko in particular has gotten a ton of love, getting a rocker look in addition to a robot form, an anime costume, and a mythic skin based on Amaterasu. Given the trend, Lifeweaver will likely get a ton of alternate looks as well.
As for the outfits Sojourn could receive, one obvious opportunity would see her becoming a full-on robot, expanding on the enhancements for her legs and arms to show how she would look as an Omnic-like machine. Community concepts like voodoo and alien skins would also be interesting, giving Blizzard plenty of options for Legendaries. An Overwatch 2 and Marvel crossover could result in a Black Panther skin for Sojourn, letting her dress up like Shuri and making her railgun resemble the princess’s sonic technology. A mythic skin on par with those released thus far could also help right the ship and change the perception that Sojourn’s skins leave a lot to be desired.
Though there are still a couple Overwatch 2 heroes like Baptiste that are in need of a few more memorable attires, Blizzard has done a good job of providing great skins for the heroes that players think need them most. Zarya and Moira are both examples of heroes that once had lacking skin lineups but have slowly started to improve, and hopefully, Sojourn will be the next in line. Considering her high pick rate and how she is being positioned as a key player for Overwatch 2’s story, Sojourn deserves more than just a couple standout outfits.
