One keen-eyed Overwatch 2 player noticed a small flaw on the new Shambali Monastery escort map. They caught the issue while loading in to an Overwatch 2 game on the map.

There has been a steady stream of new content coming to the game since Overwatch 2 launched in early October. A lot of that content has been new cosmetics and new heroes, but Activision Blizzard also released new maps to go along with the sequel. Shambali Monastery is the newest map added to Overwatch 2, and was added as part of the new content for Season 2. The new map is an Escort map set in a remote monastery built in the snowy Himalayas, and is also where the new hero Ramattra got his origin.

In an image posted to the Overwatch 2 subreddit, player Almightycurator noticed that the glowing yellow spawn zone barriers were very clearly visible in the Shambali Monastery loading screen. They seemed to be surprised that the Overwatch 2 team didn't bother to remove the spawn barriers from the loading screen in order to make the loading screen more visually appealing. Notably, other map loading screens don't show any sort of spawn barrier or in-game UI. This is also not the first time that Overwatch 2 loading screens didn't meet fans' expectations.

In today's AAA gaming scene, it seems inevitable that new content will have at least a few bugs upon release. As far as the Shambali Monastery Escort map goes, however, it seems that the spawn barriers are only one of the complaints that Overwatch 2 players have with the map. Other players in the subreddit thread mentioned that many of the bells on the map don't make sounds when players shoot them—a feature present on maps like El Dorado. Others pointed out that the map is lacking the distinct red and blue arrows present on other Escort maps that guide players to the payload.

There definitely seem to be some glaring oversights with Shambali Monastery that make it feel rushed and lower quality when compared to other Overwatch 2 maps. Some of these, like the spawn zone barriers being present in the loading screen, are probably a relatively easy fix. Others could take more time and effort, but bringing the new map up to the standard of other Overwatch 2 content would be worth it.

While these problems aren't as major as some bugs, like an Overwatch 2 bug that trapped a player in the enemy spawn, they still detract from the overall playing experience. Players definitely seem to be upset and even somewhat disillusioned about how Activision Blizzard is handling Overwatch 2, so fixing these minor issues could go a long way toward changing that.

Overwatch 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
