Overwatch 2 just revealed Call of the Hunt, the new name and theme for the eighth batch of seasonal content in the first-person shooter. Season 8 of Overwatch 2, which includes new cosmetics, a Mythic skin, and the long-awaited tank hero Mauga, roars onto the battlefield on December 5.

Every two months since its launch, Overwatch 2 has introduced a new season to the game. Each of these refreshes introduce new cosmetics based around the season’s theme, many of which can be earned from the Battle Pass. For Season 7 during October and November, Overwatch 2’s theme was called Rise of Darkness, and was split between Halloween and a Diablo 4 collaboration.

How the Roadhog Rework Compares to Overwatch 2's Other Tanks

Following Roadhog's rework in Overwatch 2, the tank hero has seen some improvements in its meta standing, while other tanks have dipped in viability.

Now, Overwatch 2 has revealed the theme for the next season of the hero FPS. Titled Call of the Hunt, it seems Overwatch 2 is going wild in Season 8. For two months starting December 5, players can earn progress through a new Battle Pass full of skins, sprays, and other cosmetics inspired by beasts, hunters, and the wilderness. The full array of customizations from Season 8 hasn’t been revealed yet, but players can expect to see these future Overwatch 2 skins in the days leading up to Call of the Hunt’s launch.

When Does Overwatch 2 Season 8 Start?

  • Overwatch 2 Season 8: Call of the Hunt launches December 5.

Judging from the teaser image Overwatch 2 shared, it seems Junker Queen will likely be getting a Call of the Hunt skin in Season 8. That said, Overwatch 2 revealed the Mythic skin is for Orisa, transforming the robotic tank into a Grand Beast featuring customizable colors and weapons, as well as unique sound and visual effects. Fans will unlock this new Mythic skin by reaching level 80 on the Season 8 Premium Battle Pass.

Of course, one of the biggest things coming in Season 8, both literally and figuratively, is Mauga, the newest tank hero in Overwatch 2. The bombastic bruiser wields two massive miniguns, and has self-healing that can rival Roadhog. Players got a taste of Mauga after his reveal during BlizzCon, but he is returning to Overwatch 2 with some buffs at the start of Season 8. Assuming it follows precedent, players can expect to unlock Mauga automatically by buying the Premium Battle Pass, or by reaching level 55 in the free version. Players who miss out on getting Mauga during Season 8 will likely be able to do so by completing in-game challenges, as they can with other Overwatch 2 heroes like Kiriko and Ramattra.
