Details regarding Overwatch 2 Season 7 are officially out and though the recent launch trailer is brief it's packed with a lot of information. While some speculated that following the hype of the Invasion-themed season would be difficult, the news that Overwatch 2 is collaborating with Diablo 4 has been garnering quite a bit of attention. When comparing the newest trailer to the game a year ago, it appears Blizzard is working to fix some of its mistakes from Season 1.

Overwatch 2 has been plagued with concerns for several months now, for varying reasons. One recurring issue appears to revolve around both the quality and quantity of skins that are available. Season 1 of the game saw the introduction of a few widely-liked skins, but it seems that Blizzard is now upping the ante with the number of creepy cosmetics it's including in Season 7.

Overwatch 2's Season 7 Cosmetics Are Perfectly In-Theme

Overwatch 2 Season 7 skins-1

The inaugural season introduced Cyber Demon Genji, the first customizable Mythic skin in the game. While this was an exciting moment, the number of themed skins in the shop and the Battle Pass were a bit underwhelming for some. For example, the cyberpunk Battle Pass contained nine different skins which were obtainable every ten levels. Only two of these could be acquired via the free track of the Battle Pass: Tactical Winston and Forest Ranger Cassidy whose outfits didn't match the cyberpunk aesthetic.

On top of this, there were four other paid Battle Pass skins that didn't match the theme either. Of course, in the following seasons, Blizzard has continued adding cosmetics that don't necessarily have to do with the overarching theme. There are positives to this if some players don't like the theme, but there have also been accusations that Overwatch 2 is failing to provide enough content for its designated themes.

With Overwatch 2 Season 7's "Rise of Darkness" theme unveiled, a staggering amount of new Halloween-esque skins have also been revealed to be on their way. At this moment, over two dozen unique skins are expected to drop with the upcoming content cycle. While the Lilith Moira skin based on the character from Diablo 4 is taking up quite a bit of the spotlight, there's been a fair amount of conversation around the other designs.

It's been confirmed that at least 17 of the skins will be in the Battle Pass or purchasable in the in-game shop. There's an adequate balance of Diablo-inspired skins accompanied by spooky cosmetics such as Witch Doctor Mercy and Cleric Lifeweaver. While there are outliers such as the duck-inspired Zenyatta and Orisa skins, it looks like Blizzard is committing even more to the frightening aesthetic of Season 7.

The fact that Overwatch 2's upcoming season is focusing more on the theme is a great sign for the future. Whether Blizzard will continue this trend going into future seasons is still to be seen. For now, it's clear that there's a massive difference in the skins from Season 6 and Season 7 than the ones from when the game was released.

Overwatch 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
