Overwatch 2's fourth season is coming to a close, with the fifth confirmed to be debuting on June 13. Season 5 of the hero shooter is fantasy-themed, starkly contrasting with the space opera imagery from before. With new trailers and announcements rolling out in anticipation of the future Overwatch 2 season, Blizzard revealed a mythic Tracer skin for the next battle pass that has been a cause for excitement, though not just because of its aesthetically pleasing features.

Of course, Overwatch 2 has its work cut out for it if the game wants to recover from the controversy of the past few weeks. Many fans are still disappointed in Blizzard's decision to stop the development of the PvE components that were promised in 2019's Rio de Janeiro game demo. Alongside new controversial patch notes to one-shot characters and the reintroduction of CC (crowd control) that is set to drop in the next few days, the state of Overwatch 2 may warrant concern from some.

Overwatch 2's New Mythic Skin Shows Promise

Tracer Mythic Skin Overwatch 2 Tier 80

Of course, there is still content for the player base to look forward to if the Overwatch 2 roadmap for Seasons 5 through Season 7 is anything to go off of. The new Mythic skin for the battle pass was expected to go to a DPS hero after the first season saw a Cyber Demon skin for Genji, followed by a Zeus-themed Junker Queen, Kiriko's Amaterasu skin, and Sigma's Galactic Emperor. Since the cycle of Damage, Tank, and Support seemingly skipped DPS in Season 4, it was relieving for many that Tracer is getting her own Mythic.

Past tier 80 skins like Season 3's Mythic Kiriko were generally met with excitement, especially due to their customization options which had never been seen in-game before. However, once the skins were obtained, it was common for players to lock in their favorite design and then simply move on. It seems that for Season 5, Blizzard is adopting a new strategy to help the game feel more progressive.

As such, Blizzard announced that this season Tracer's Adventurer skin would unlock the base model at tier 45 and an intermediate variation at tier 65 as players level up. The complete skin will be granted at the highest level of the battle pass, tier 80, disregarding tiers that grant titles. However, it's unclear if Blizzard will continue this trend of the Mythic skin taking three slots in the Battle Pass, as some players have already expressed their concerns that this could mean fewer skins for other characters overall.

A Demon Lord Reinhardt that is quite reminiscent of Diablo 4 designs has also been confirmed to be coming in Season 5, alongside a new Genji skin, and Orisa skin. Since the Mythic Tracer skin will be taking three slots of the fantasy-themed battle pass, some fans are wondering if these other skins will be in the shop or part of the battle pass track. Many fans are speculating that at the very least Demon Lord Reinhardt will be a shop-exclusive skin with a limited time to obtain, similar to Widowmaker's Cyberdevil skin and Zenyatta's Pinnochio skin.

With just four days until Overwatch 2 Season 5, Blizzard will certainly be revealing more details soon. Perhaps there will be more fantasy-themed cosmetics based on more DPS and support characters. Until then, players can enjoy the Double XP bonus that is currently active while finishing the Season 4 battle pass.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
