Overwatch 2 is going to be celebrating Pride Month this June in a big way. Instead of just having an event recognizing it, Overwatch 2 is bringing Pride into the actual game world.

Recently, Overwatch 2 revealed its plans for Season 4, which officially began hours before press time. In addition to releasing Lifeweaver, its newest support hero, Overwatch 2 announced a bevy of new in-game cosmetics, game modes, and events coming to the game as a part of the new season of Overwatch 2.

One of these events is an official celebration of Pride Month within Overwatch 2. In its accompanying blog post, Overwatch 2 explained that it wants to do Pride right, and not just add inclusivity for clout or to check boxes. Rather than a simple event, Blizzard is going to have Pride Month recognized and celebrated within the world of Overwatch 2. Though the exact details of this event are currently unknown, players can expect to hear more details before Pride Month kicks off in June.

There are several LGBTQ+ characters within Overwatch 2. Tracer was confirmed Lesbian with the introduction of her girlfriend Emily in an Overwatch comic from December 2016, and the “Bastet'' short story showed that Soldier 76 is gay. Lifeweaver's Season 4 reveal established him as pansexual, and his voice lines with Baptiste indicate the Overwatch 2 support hero may be queer as well. The Pride celebration in Overwatch 2 could possibly be the chance to have other characters also come out as LGBTQ+ in an organic way.

LGBTQ+ fans in Overwatch 2 are excited to see it is having a full celebration of Pride. While it has been openly supportive of the community in the past, fully integrating Pride into the Overwatch 2 game world is something few other AAA games have done in the past. With a lot of LGBTQ+ developers working on Overwatch 2, it is clear Pride means as much to them as it does its fanbase.

It seems Season 4 of Overwatch 2 is going to be full of exciting events. In addition to Pride, players will be able to complete challenges for Lifeweaver and Symmetra to earn a free skins, and play on the community-made Talantis map. Additionally, the new alternate universe Starwatch theme Overwatch 2’s Season 4 skins are designed around could be the beginning of something big. With Season 4 in full bloom, and several awesome events coming soon, Overwatch 2’s spring and early summer season promises to be truly unforgettable.

Overwatch 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
