As Overwatch 2 preps for Season 3, the developers have shared a detailed overview of some of the changes to expect. The game has been experiencing a rocky few months following its release back in October 2022, where it faced server issues right out of the gate and then followed by numerous changes that got a mixed reception from players. Although the latest update indicates that Blizzard may be doubling down on its efforts to excite Overwatch 2 fans.

Of course, the studio has been actively pushing more content and changes during the past few months such as the 2023 Lunar New Year and Battle for Olympus limited-time events. But not every change has been met with optimism, particularly when it comes to changes to characters like Moira and Roadhog. Though it should be noted that part of the broader criticism of Overwatch 2 is that communication between the studio and the players isn't always clear. Thereby, as the company gets ready for the game's next phase, the developers promised to improve Blizzard communication with fans ahead of Season 3.

According to an official update, fans can expect a number of notable updates in the new season. For starters, Ramattra's ultimate ability Annihilation will tick down slower if enemies are in it and will be capped at 20 seconds. The studio says it will also look to "offer rewards that are new for all players more consistently" while adding that one of the new events for Season 3 will have a brand-new legendary skin as a reward. Another interesting change is that the studio will be bringing back Overwatch Credits, which were previously renamed to Legacy Credits where players had no way of earning these credits in Overwatch 2. With Season 3, players can earn up to 1,500 credits as free rewards, along with 500 credits as premium rewards scattered across the upcoming Battle Pass.

The announcement went on to detail more changes specifically with regard to its hero gallery. Moving forward, gamers will have the ability to purchase all epic and legendary skins preceding Overwatch 2 and the standard price of legendary skins will be lowered to 1,500 coins or credits. Additionally, apart from the fact that there won't be a new Overwatch 2 hero next season, Blizzard listed an updated change on the way to its matchmaking system and specified that players could expect updates to the competitive system as well.

Talking about the studio's plans to further improve Overwatch 2, Blizzard states that it's exploring an option to revamp the "on fire" system. The developer also claims that it's in the early stages of a new "hero-based progression system" where it can "showcase the energy players put into playing each hero and mastering their different capabilities." Of course, things could still change further even after Season 3 launches and much of that will be dependent on how the fanbase reacts to the updates. Either way, it looks like Overwatch 2 may have an interesting few months ahead.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
