Overwatch 2 is being review bombed as fans share their frustrations by giving it negative scores. It launched on October 4 as a free-to-play title for consoles and PC. Overwatch 2 was supposed to release with a PvE game mode, but this feature got delayed to next year.
Gamers have been experiencing various issues while trying to play Overwatch 2. In addition to long queue times, players report getting kicked out of the game due to server disconnects. Blizzard has acknowledged these problems, including the “Unexpected Server Error” message seen by players who merged their PC and console accounts. Users are now expressing their anger by giving it negative scores online.
Overwatch 2 players have posted negative reviews on Metacritic to express their issues with the game. It has a critic score of 81, which is categorized as generally favorable, but the user score is currently sitting at 1.3. Such a low score means that many users share a strong “Overwhelming dislike” for Overwatch 2 on Metacritic. It appears that most players are facing server issues when trying to play Overwatch 2, with specific mentions of the long queue times.
Given that it’s a free-to-play title, Overwatch 2 follows the live-service model where users can buy a battle pass to unlock cosmetic items. However, gamers have issues with the general price of skins and the microtransactions present in Overwatch 2. Some also claim that Overwatch 2 is not a full sequel, and it feels more like an update to the original Overwatch. This point is echoed by many other users, as they classify the game as a cash grab.
Overwatch 2 required gamers to have a mobile phone to play the game, and Blizzard stated that this was done to protect the community from cheaters. Many fans expressed issues with the idea in their reviews on Metacritic, although Blizzard has since removed the requirement for some players. Other problems include missing items as some Heroes and items are incorrectly showing as locked for users, and it looks like all of these issues combined form the basis of users’ complaints with Overwatch 2.
Many video games get review bombed throughout the year, although it’s often not done without solid reasons. Games like Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, and Dying Light 2 received negative reviews from fans to varying degrees this year, with FIFA 23 being the most recent example of review bombing.
