A recent clip uploaded on the internet shows a Reinhardt player sacrificing themself during a game of Overwatch 2 in order to save their team from certain doom. While it might be hard to believe, the sequel to the original Overwatch has already been out via early access for several weeks, and many fans have been making the most of their time with the new release. While the three new heroes for Overwatch 2 have been a highlight for some, others still enjoy playing as classic characters from the original game, such as Reinhardt.
Recently, one gamer known as Wave_the_seawing made a genuinely selfless play for their team using Reinhardt on the Control map Ilios. When posting the clip to Reddit, Wave_the_seawing simply said, “Saved everyone from a DVA ult.” However, how the highlight played out made it much more notable.
The Overwatch 2 clip shared on Reddit by Wave_the_seawing began from the POV of Reinhardt as the player moved with their team toward the objective on the Lighthouse section of Ilios. As the tank player began taking fire from the enemies on the point, an enemy D.Va flew straight past Reinhardt’s shield toward the rest of the Reddit user’s team, where they activated their Self-Destruct Ultimate. Recognizing that they needed to act fast to save everyone on their team, Wave_the_seawing charged the soon-to-self-destruct mech, sending it and Reinhardt flying off the edge of the map. While it killed the tank, the Reddit user’s team managed to survive the blast, and it created a hilarious clip in the process.
As some fans already pointed out, it is worth noting that Wave_the_seawing probably could have survived the encounter if they had put up their shield instead of charging the enemy D.Va mech off the side of the cliff. However, the player’s selfless act made the clip much more memorable, as evidenced by the already 1.3K upvotes it has received on Reddit. In addition, some fans quoted the “Live with honor, die with glory” line from the Reinhardt cinematic “Honor and Glory.” While there is no shortage of clips of Reinhardt players charging off the map to their death, this one is likely one of the more memorable.
As players continue to use Reinhardt in Overwatch 2, there will likely be even more clips featuring this popular tank posted online. Even though this clip from Wave_the_seawing was more amusing than anything else, Reinhardt is a viable pick for Overwatch 2's new 5v5 format. Despite the game featuring several other powerful tanks, such as Zarya and Orisa, Reinhardt still can be an effective option in matches due to his shield barrier and various other abilities. With his ability to protect the rest of his teammates, he will likely continue to be a somewhat common pick on the battlefield for the time being.
