One Overwatch 2 player falls victim to a classic online prank during a competitive match which also results in their ranking taking a hit for leaving early. The online nature of Overwatch 2 means that matches between players will never be the same as there's always a chance that something out of the ordinary could take place. Since they game's launch, Overwatch 2 players have been sharing all sorts of unique moments or strange bugs that have seemingly come out of nowhere.

Things going wrong during Overwatch 2 matches seem to be a favorite of the community as countless players have posted short clips of something unexpected happening. The most recently added hero, Lifeweaver, has been at the center of many as the support character has abilities that can be just as damaging to teammates as they are helpful. However, one person decided to bring back an old Overwatch prank during a Competitive match and to the surprise of everyone in the Lobby, it actually worked.

In a very popular thread on the Overwatch 2 subReddit, a user named Toastless_Memes posted a screenshot of their chat log during a Competitive Match. One player typed a message that looked official, typing the word "System" in all caps, claiming the user had been reported, and ending with the suggestion that they type "/log" and then press enter to review the report. Unfortunately for the impacted player, typing "/log" is also a terminal command that logs the player out of the game.

As the player known as Goobster is seen to have left the match, the match is set to close with all players currently in the match not being impacted with a skill rating change. However, Goobster won't have that same luck as they'll be incurring Overwatch 2's harsher penalties for leaving. While the lobby clearly had some fun at Goobster's expense and comments on the Reddit thread indicating that they would have fallen for this as well, this can be dangerous for the person doing it as it could be reported as "Gameplay Sabotage." Players should be on the lookout for a diamond icon, which indicates a new line instead of being made to look like a standalone message.

Unfortunately, this isn't something that Blizzard can update as the console commands are technically working as intended. For now, Blizzard is deep in gameplay territory, as developers on Overwatch 2 shared a few upcoming changes to characters like Lifeweaver, Mei, and Cassidy. With a potential rise in devious tricks like "/log" seemingly happening in ranked matches, players will want to remain vigilant.

Overwatch 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
