The long wait to log into Overwatch 2 has some players setting a new trend to "speedrun" their way through the queue and reach the title screen. Since the game's launch on October 4, the amount of time players have to wait between entering their usernames and passwords before getting to the title screens has really been dragging down the enjoyment of Overwatch 2 for many people.

It should be noted that a speedrun of a login screen isn't exactly the same as trying to reach the end of Super Metroid or Ocarina of Time in as little amount of time as possible. This is more of a showcase of exactly how long it has been taking to log into Overwatch 2 thanks to the amount of players attempting to join at the moment, along with a bevy of server issues.

One player launched a timer app often used by speedrunners and recorded for 16 minutes before hitting the end of the queue. The player even added splits to show the time between segments divided by the number of others waiting ahead, counting down from 30K in line all the way down to 1K. These wait issues have been plaguing Overwatch 2's servers since launch, although it does seem like some players are at least finding a bit of luck when it comes to logging into the game.

Another player who uploaded their "speedrun" of logging into Overwatch 2 managed to hit the title screen just over 13 seconds after starting the timer. So, even with Overwatch 2 servers being attacked and overloaded by so many players trying to log in, there are still some fans who are having a slightly better time getting into the game. That being said, the only reason this player decided to record and time this attempt was because they had been running into issues on previous login attempts. Note that the video contains swearing.

For many players, these long waits to log in have been incredibly frustrating, which is what makes the idea of these "speedruns" so cathartic as a joke. This can be especially frustrating for fans looking to take the few hours they have in the day to grind through some of Overwatch 2's weekly challenges in time to actually earn some rewards. Altogether, the slow waits are another fumble on the launch of Overwatch 2 so far, and fans will always be quick to make a joke out of anything this frustrating.

Overwatch 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
