Since Blizzard confirmed characters are getting touched up and full reworks are on the table, Overwatch fans have been curious as to what some of these touch ups could be in Overwatch 2. The studio previously pointed to Bastion as one such character who could see a major rework to his mobility to make the character viable in 5v5 action. Orisa-mains are hoping the tank hero will be reworked as well, and one of Blizzard's previous cinematics highlight just what these players are hoping for.
Overwatch 2 narratively picks up with the Overwatch team reuniting as the world falls back into chaos. A big addition will be PvE-driven Hero and Story missions akin to the seasonal PvE events in Overwatch, with new missions added with major game updates. The 6v6 competitive gameplay of the first game is being reworked to 5v5 in Overwatch 2, as well, to make tanks more enticing and speed up the overall game. However, as mentioned above, the rework to competitive requires reworks to multiple characters, especially the tanks as many are said to be "unplayable" and the dev team wants to make them feel more like "brawlers."
In regards to an Orisa rework, fans may have already found an ability that they feel would be massively beneficial. The rework in question would see the hulking robot get a brand new melee ability for any close encounters with anyone on the opposing team. The proposed rework was shared on a Reddit threat and subsequently found by Dexerto.
The ability shown off is taken directly from the Overwatch cinematic short, Honor and Glory. It follows a young Reinhardt during a battle against Omnic forces in Germany where the hero gets his eye scar and he sees his friend/mentor Balderich sacrifice himself to save their men. Among the Omnic forces the hulking knights take on are multiple OR15 units, armed with the rapid-fire arm gun and planted shields fans are familiar with. However, many are also seen wielding energy swords to take on Reinhardt and Balderich when the duo get a little too close for comfort.
The gauntlet blade is noticeably absent from Orisa's current build in Overwatch, though it makes sense given tanks' role as essentially bullet sponges. Some of the tanks, like Reinhardt and Wrecking Ball, already tow the line with the brawler-style gameplay Blizzard said its looking for out of tanks in Overwatch 2 and are likely serving as the template for how to make it work. In Orisa's case, the energy blade would go a long way in helping her stand out when the sequel drops and keep her at the top when it comes to the tank heroes.
