Highlights

  • In the latest Overwatch 2 season, players can unlock an Omnic-themed mythic skin for Ana, along with robotic versions of Pharah and Symmetra. Cassidy and Kiriko Omnic skins can be found in the Premium bundle.
  • These Omnic skins look nice, but they may also serve a second purpose as potential PvE enemy types.
  • Blizzard has already repurposed Ana's mythic skin in a PvE mission, indicating that other skins like Symmetra, Pharah, Kiriko, and Cassidy could also be turned into AI-controlled enemies in event missions.

Thus far, Overwatch 2 has had some standout themes for its battle passes, with most of the items in each pass sticking closely to the Season’s main focus. The Fantasy-themed pass for Season 5 meant that players got to dress their heroes up as knights and wizards, while a Space Opera theme meant that Star Wars-inspired outfits were available. Greek Mythology and Cyberpunk themes were memorable, too, though the Omnic-focused battle pass of Overwatch 2 Season 6 may be the most memorable yet.

In the latest Season of Overwatch 2, gamers can unlock options for Ana’s Omnic-themed mythic skin, though the wise old Support is accompanied by robotic versions of a few other cast members. Fans get to see what the Damage heroes Pharah and Symmetra would look like as machines, while those that purchase the more expensive Battle Pass bundle receive new looks for the gunslinger Cassidy and the vigilante Kiriko. Intriguingly, though these may just seem like stylish cosmetics designed to make Blizzard some money, the skins could serve a second purpose: more PvE enemy types.

Overwatch 2’s Omnic Ana PvE Enemy May Be a Sign of Things to Come

Overwatch 2’s Mythic Ana skin, called A-700 Wargod, transforms Pharah’s mother into a nearly unrecognizable machine. With three different heads and colors to choose from in addition to some different rifles, Ana’s Mythic is an excellent addition to the game, and one that those who main the hero will undoubtedly be eager to acquire. However, this new outfit has already been repurposed inside a PvE mission, proving that it is more than just another cosmetic.

In addition to Overwatch 2’s story missions, which will release in batches every few seasons, Blizzard will occasionally add event missions for players to enjoy. These can basically be viewed as side missions, with players getting to enjoy replayable fights with special modifiers in altered maps from multiplayer. The first mission, called Underworld, takes players to a version of King’s Row with a few familiar faces on the opposing side.

After charging up a version of Overwatch 2’s Push robot with batteries and battling some Omnics, players will have to defend a doorway alongside TS-1. During this final defense section, players will have to face off against a modified Orisa just like they did in Uprising from the Archives event. However, this time she is accompanied by an A-700 Wargod - AKA, the mythic Ana skin. This allows an enemy to wield Ana’s abilities against Overwatch, adding a unique challenge as players rush to kill her before she can get a nanoboost off.

Blizzard already reusing assets with Mythic Ana in a PvE mission means that it would make sense for it to do the same with some other skins. Symmetra has already been an AI foe in the Wrath of the Bride PvE mission, so mechanics are in place to align her with the Omnics - all Blizzard would have to do is put the Omnic skin on her to make her a “new” PvE enemy type. Just like Sym’s teleporter and turrets could make her a threat, Pharah would fit naturally alongside the Jumpjet enemies, while Kiriko’s Kitsune Rush could make Null Sector groups tough to eliminate. Cassidy’s High Noon could be terrifying, too, as it would be the first true “team wipe” ability in PvE.

With Roadhog and Junkrat receiving Omnic skins a few months ago, prior to the Omnic-themed sixth Season, Blizzard has several options for unique event mission enemies. While they will likely be kept away from the story missions, the non-canon event missions are a perfect place to turn playable heroes into AI-controlled enemies to fight. With Omnic skins now existing for several heroes, this robotic version of Ana could end up getting some company in the near future, as Cassidy, Kiriko, Pharah, and Symmetra are all being potential threats.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
