When fielding questions about the hype leading up to the release of Overwatch 2, Wanted was asked who they were excited to main in the game. He began to answer "I was thinking about Kiri..." then stopped himself and awkwardly brought up a Sword Art Online character Kirito in an attempt to perhaps try and cover it up.[EMBED_REDDIT]https://www.reddit.com/r/Competitiveoverwatch/comments/x8l233/watchpoint_pack_updated_description_kiriko_name/[/EMBED_REDDIT]As the screenshot of the Overwatch 2 Watchpoint Pack description began to circulate on social media, some fans raised concerns about the method of obtaining new heroes. The Battle Pass system will be new to Overwatch and, though there will be a free and a premium Battle Pass, fans have been getting caught up on the association and proximity of the word "premium" to the supposed new hero name "Kiriko." This has become the biggest talking point for fans thinking that they will be required to buy the Premium Battle Pass in order to get new Overwatch heroes. So much so that Jon Spector, Overwatch Commercial Leader and Vice President sent out a tweet to calm down the masses.

His tweet skirts around mentioning the hero or their name, but assures fans that new heroes coming to Overwatch will be available on the free path of the Battle Pass. What that means can be analyzed another time, but for a senior member to acknowledge this leaked information and call it "incomplete info" lends some credence to the new hero's name being "Kiriko."

With the Early Access of Overwatch 2 less than a month away, time is running out for Blizzard to get the hype train rolling for the game. Speculating that the company could be looking to announce something during a larger event, the Overwatch League is holding a LAN event in Toronto from September 8-11. Blizzard has revealed new heroes during Overwatch League match days before when the league was based in Burbank. It could use the chance to talk more about the new hero at the Toronto Homestand, which is the hometown of another new Overwatch 2 hero, Sojourn.

Overwatch 2 releases on October 4 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
