It seems that a proper reveal for the new Overwatch 2 Support hero may be next on the docket, with Blizzard teasing the hero at the end of the latest beta. At the conclusion of the Overwatch 2 PvP beta, players were treated to a strange message that seemed like a random assortment of letters and numbers: V2hhdCBkb2VzIHRoZSBmb3ggc2F5Pw==. Twitter user Hayzelet pointed out that putting this sequence in a Base64 decoder actually revealed a secret message.
The code translates to "What does the fox say?" This is in reference to "The Fox" by Ylvis, a bizarre song that exploded in popularity in 2013, with a music video that has surpassed 1 billion views, and it's also clearly a nod to the new Overwatch 2 fox hero, who has been hinted at in other ways for quite some time.
The Overwatch 2 fox hero was first leaked years ago, and then Blizzard included a direct reference to the hero on the Kanezaka deathmatch map with the "yokai" spray paint. Blizzard also teased the fox hero with the big Overwatch 2 trailer that released as part of the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, though it was a relatively small detail in the trailer that many fans may have missed.
In the Overwatch 2 trailer that released during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, fans can briefly spot a blue fox running down a path, seemingly giving a speed boost to the heroes running behind it. It's long been theorized that this fox is a "yokai" companion for the new Support hero, though it seems fans of Blizzard's hero-shooter will have to wait a little longer for clarification on that front.
The Overwatch 2 early access release date is in October, so fans can expect more information on the new Support hero to come to light in the weeks ahead.
