The Overwatch franchise has seen plenty of new skins being added to the game since its release in 2016, with some Overwatch 2 skins bearing truly unique designs. Over the years Blizzard's artists have continued to put out more intricately designed skins, especially since Overwatch 2 has finally launched, though the company could be doing more.

While Kiriko's latest Legendary skin was available via Twitch drops and other heroes such as Sojourn, Mercy, and Junker Queen have also been given legendary cosmetics this season, Blizzard hasn't given as much love to the Mythic tier. The sequel introduced a new tier for hero skins, deemed Mythic, but only one character has received one so far.

Overwatch 2 Needs More Mythic Skins

Overwatch 2 Legendary Skins

Blizzard seems to be planning to only provide one Mythic skin per season. Since this is a new tier for skins, upstaging the previous Legendary skins, these cosmetic changes need to be aesthetically satisfying, have new features, and be worth the grind or money.

While Genji has the widely well-received Cyber Demon Mythic skin, which is also the only Mythic in the game so far, there are other heroes who also deserve this treatment. If in the future Overwatch 2 were to do three Mythic skins per Battle Pass, it could allow players to earn one for tanks, damage, and support categories. This might be more satisfying for those who only play one or two roles, so if they don't play DPS, a Genji skin may not as rewarding. Unfortunately, Blizzard already mentioned that it takes one year to create a brand new Mythic Skin for Overwatch in an interview with Game Informer, so this may not be an easy task.

Heroes that Need Mythic Skins Sooner Than Later

Winston Overwatch Yeti Skin

While Overwatch 2 currently has 35 characters to choose from, most players would likely agree that the older characters from the base game deserve to get Mythic skins before any of the new ones receive one. In terms of tanks, Winston, D.Va, Reinhardt, or Zarya were the first to debut in 2014 when the game was announced, so it would make sense if they were given priority.

Many in the Overwatch community believe that Blizzard could be doing more with Winston's design, since he's such a unique character. As of late, it appears Blizzard recoloring a lot of skins or adding a simple hat and glasses for Legendary skins like his Safari-themed outfit. If Blizzard wanted to, it could truly create something worth marveling over that compares to Genji's Cyber Demon.

The next DPS to receive a Mythic skin should probably be Tracer or Widowmaker, since the former is one of the most famous Overwatch faces, and well-crafted Widowmaker skins are always very sought after. Of course, a new Cassidy or Soldier: 76 skin would probably also make a lot of fans quite happy.

For most, it would seem obvious that the first Support hero to gain a Mythic skin should be Mercy, as seen with the much coveted Pink Mercy skin that was purchasable in support of Breast Cancer Research. However, Mercy is often given great skins, so it could be time for a different Support character to earn the spotlight. Other OW launch characters like Lucio or Zenyatta would be good contenders.

Hopefully, it won't take a year for the next Mythic skin to release, especially since it's likely that the artists were creating ideas for these skins over the past few years when Overwatch prime was in a content drought. If they're all on par with Genji's Cyber Demon, which comes with customizable tattoo textures, different masks, color sets, and more, then fans are likely in for a treat.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
