There once was a time when Overwatch fans believed that they would be playing the long-awaited Overwatch 2 this year. Unfortunately, Blizzard has delayed Overwatch 2 multiple times, with the latest delay meaning that fans likely won't get their hands on the game until sometime in 2023 at the earliest. One has to imagine that something factoring in to the Overwatch 2 delays is the need to seriously rework many of the game's characters to fit the new 5v5 setup, with Blizzard keeping a tight lid on most of the character reworks so far.

While Blizzard hasn't revealed a ton of Overwatch 2 character reworks, it has given players a look at what they can expect in terms of changes to characters like Winston and Mei. One character whose changes remain shrouded in mystery is popular Support hero Mercy, though it seems a leak may have revealed a massive change that Blizzard has in store for the character when Overwatch 2 launches.

Leaker EeveeA has cited three sources (two with supposed evidence and one "by word) who have said that Overwatch 2 is making a major change to Mercy that is not unlike a change EeveeA suggested a year ago. Apparently the change will remove Mercy's Resurrection ability, which allows her to bring teammates back from the dead, and replaces it with a move called Angelic Blessing.

It sounds like Mercy's new Angelic Blessing ability would essentially allow her to zip to a teammate and whisk them away to safety. So instead of having Res to bring players back from the dead, this new Mercy ability would be a bit more proactive, focused on keeping teammates alive instead. Whether or not there's any truth to this remains to be seen, and it's also unclear exactly when fans will learn more.

As previously stated, Overwatch 2 was hit with a big delay, and that combined with the ongoing Activision Blizzard controversies makes it increasingly uncertain when fans will ever see more of the game in action. Prior to the delay, it seemed Blizzard was really ramping up its Overwatch 2 reveals, but it's possible that those plans are being sidelined.

With no Overwatch 2 release in sight, fans have been asking Blizzard to release more content for the original game to help pass the time. More specifically, there's been hope that Overwatch 2 hero Sojourn would be added to the original Overwatch, but Blizzard has not responded to those requests at the time of this writing.

Overwatch 2 is in development.
