Highlights

  • Lifeweaver's Life Grip ability in Overwatch 2 has caused controversy, as it can be easily exploited by trolls and pull teammates into dangerous situations.
  • Lifeweaver's healing abilities have been criticized for being underwhelming, with a charge time and limited ammunition capacity, leading to difficulty in supplying enough healing during intense fights.
  • A recent clip shows Lifeweaver's Life Grip ability pull a teammate directly into the impact of a D.Va bomb.

The introduction of Lifeweaver in Overwatch 2 has also seen the addition of one of the game's most controversial abilities, and one hilarious clip shows a Life Grip play that results in a teammate getting pulled out of cover and into a blast zone. While Lifeweaver may not be the strongest support character in Overwatch 2 at the moment, he nonetheless represents the game's most recently-added character, and brings a few interesting abilities to Blizzard's online hero FPS.

Added to the world of Overwatch 2 in Season 4, Lifeweaver is a charming Support hero who utilizes bio-light to both provide healing and deal damage. His high-tech powers allow him to deploy several utilities in battle, with his abilities including a Petal Platform that can be used to elevate teammates and a Life Grip ability that allow the character to physically pull allies to his position from a distance. While Life Grip can be an invaluable way of rescuing teammates from fatal falls or situations where they find themselves surrounded by enemies, it's also proven to be an ability that's easily exploited by trolls in Overwatch 2.

Either on purpose or by accident, it's not uncommon to see Overwatch 2 players pulled into danger or to have their Ultimates ruined by Life Grip, and many fans are not happy about Lifeweaver's abilities as a result. One hilarious and equally unfortunate clip posted by the user brawlimmoStefan on Reddit perfectly highlights how Life Grip can be quite catastrophic in the wrong hands. This clip features the player as Soldier: 76, who, when attempting to run to shelter from an incoming D.Va bomb, is instead pulled by their Lifeweaver directly back into the blast zone where they are killed.

Even with his abilities aside, Lifeweaver has been a particularly controversial hero in Overwatch 2 since the day he was released. Though the character has a lot of useful utility to offer during fights, many fans consider his healing to be rather underwhelming due to it having a charge time. Even after several buffs which aimed to improve the hero's viability, Lifeweaver still struggles to supply a decent amount of healing during tough fights, with his focus on healing often preventing the character from dishing out any damage.

Though Lifeweaver largely remains an unfavored choice of Support in higher-ranked matches, he's just one example of the current state of hero balance in Overwatch 2. While every player certainly has their own opinion of character balance in the game, Blizzard has made some big changes to several heroes in recent patches in an attempt to respond to popular criticisms from fans, though it seems that some of the more brazen changes made to the game in the latest update have only made matters worse for Overwatch 2.

Overwatch 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
