The newest hero set to join the Overwatch 2 roster, Lifeweaver, has received a new animated Origin Story which highlights the Thai character's background. Lifeweaver is headlining Overwatch 2's upcoming Season 4 as the ninth support hero to join the roster of the popular first-person hero shooter.Overwatch 2's launch back in October served as a refresh for the community, moving to a faster-paced 5v5 format and introducing three new heroes in Sojourn, Kiriko, and Junker Queen. Since then, players have also seen the Omnic tank Ramattra enter the fray in December. Despite all this, many support players have been feeling the lack of support heroes compared to other, more populated roles. Currently, Overwatch 2 features eleven tanks, seventeen DPS heroes, and just eight support heroes. Lifeweaver is the first of two new support heroes planned for 2023 to address this issue.RELATED: Overwatch 2 Devs Talk Best Team Comps With LifeweaverAs part of a big Lifeweaver info blowout after yesterday's reveal, a short 2D animated Origin Story for the hero showed up on Xbox's Twitter, giving players context to the new healer's background. Such an animated short is common practice for all new Overwatch heroes during their big debut.

A naturalist, Lifeweaver was part of the Vishkar Academy, the very same organization the classic Overwatch hero Symmetra became a part of as a child. There, Lifeweaver fused the corporation's hard light technology with living plants to invent bio-light, a technology capable of healing people and ultimately making the world a better place. The Vishkar Corporation wished to claim bio-light as their own creation and use it for their own purposes. This caused Lifeweaver to denounce Vishkar and its formulaic focus on uniformity and leave the academy, setting out on his own to heal the world with his bio-light.

With the arrival of the first Thai character in Overwatch 2, it's clear that Blizzard is continuing to highlight diverse characters from around the world, bringing new stories and cultures to the forefront of its massively popular hero shooter. Having attended Vishkar Academy at the same time, it'll be interesting to see if Lifeweaver and Symmetra will have any voice lines related to one another. As of now, it's doubtful they'd be friendly toward each other given Lifeweaver's vehement disapproval of Vishkar - the corporation that Symmetra remains loyal to as a hard light architect. Players won't have long to find out, as Lifeweaver arrives with Season 4 of Overwatch 2 on April 11.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
