Blizzard has announced that Lead Hero designer for Overwatch 2 has left the company. The launch of Overwatch 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Overwatch has been going through a lot lately, along with Blizzard itself, leading up to its launch. One of the biggest changes to Overwatch 2 recently has been the departure of Lead Hero Designer Geoff Goodman.

Geoff Goodman was Lead Hero Designer at Blizzard for both Overwatch and Overwatch 2 who designed beloved heroes like D.Va, Tracer, and Mercy, among others.

Blizzard has announced the departure of Overwatch 2 Lead Hero Designer just before launch on October 4th. There are no confirmed details as to the reason for his leaving the company, but a spokesperson from Blizzard said he "made the decision to leave earlier this year." Goodman hasn't made a public appearance officially since June, so it seems like this departure was recent. This comes in the wake of many high-profile departures from Blizzard, including former Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan.

Overwatch 2 has been no stranger to controversy ever since its announcement, but this is part of a bigger company issue. In this case, and in many others, it meant losing some key players in Blizzard's biggest games, Overwatch and Overwatch 2 being only two of many. It could be a result of Goodman just wanting to leave to move on to better things, but there have been no concrete details behind his decision.

The development of Overwatch 2 has been an interesting topic among fans recently with many of them feeling disgruntled at things like locking heroes behind a battle pass among them. Goodman's departure so close to launch could mean significant changes for future heroes, but it's unclear how much will change.

Overwatch has been acclaimed since the original launched in 2016 with fans flocking to it for the engaging characters and gameplay. It has only continued to thrive with the introduction of new heroes and ongoing seasonal events with some players coming back every time. Overwatch 2 has some potential with new hero Kiriko and more on the way for fans to enjoy as the game continues to get updated.

Overwatch 2 will release on October 4 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
