While many remain unsold on whether the jump to 5v5 will be a good thing for Overwatch 2, those on the fence will soon have the chance to see more of the game through the upcoming beta. One fan has kept themselves busy during the wait by turning the latest piece of Overwatch 2 key art into an animation.

Given how large the Overwatch fan base is, there are plenty of creative gamers within it, meaning spectacular community creations are far from uncommon. Seemingly every day, new Overwatch skin concepts are being shared, fresh fan art is being posted, and interesting discussions are being had. Despite this, animations are a bit rarer, making a recent Reddit post from GunmetalPj particularly cool. For those that have been keeping up with news regarding the sequel, the animated art should be familiar.

Alongside the announcement of Overwatch 2’s upcoming beta, Blizzard shared several screenshots from the game as well as some new key art that features three heroes and the game’s logo. This key art is what GunmetalPj went out of their way to animate, and they did an excellent job with this adjustment. In the animation, Brigitte and Sojourn can be seen moving their arms up and down, making it seem like the two heroes are alive. Brigitte’s shield can also be seen glowing, which is another smart adjustment.

The most obvious adjustment can be seen on Zenyatta, who is sporting his Overwatch 2 redesign. The orbs that the Support hero uses for healing allies and debuffing enemies can be seen spinning around him just like they would in-game, and this adds a lot to the piece. At the start of the animation, only the “2” from the hero shooter’s logo is present, though the word Overwatch comes into frame as the animation plays out. Once it is finished, the 2 is zoomed-in on and the animation begins again.

With the animation looping in an incredibly clever way, it is not too surprising that Overwatch 2 fans have responded well to the animation. Thus far, the post has brought in over 2,000 upvotes, with many commenters praising the creator and asking how they were able to make such a polished animation. According to them, all the process required was a combination of Photoshop and After Effects. Unsurprisingly, many fans wanted it as a wallpaper, asking the Redditor to make a looped version without text. In the meantime, they posted a version with no loops or text to Twitter.

While the Overwatch 2 beta will not have PvE, hopefully it meets the expectations of PvP fans. With the wait for the game being so long, it would be great for the community to be satisfied when they finally get to play it.

Overwatch 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
