Blizzard has revealed Illari's abilities in Overwatch 2, with players able to try out the new Support hero for themselves after downloading the big Invasion update. Illari was first teased for Overwatch 2 as part of the Invasion update trailer that dropped for the game at the Xbox Games Showcase event, with Blizzard giving fans an even closer look at the hero in the more recent Season 6 trailer.

The Overwatch 2 Season 6 trailer showed off all the major content that fans can expect to see in the game for Season 6. Released alongside a handy Season 6 roadmap, the Overwatch 2 Season 6 trailer confirmed Illari's name and showed the new Support hero in action. However, the trailer did not provide a breakdown of Illari's abilities in the game, leaving fans to speculate about what exactly her kit brings to the table.

Blizzard has now pulled the curtain back on Illari's abilities, letting fans know exactly what to expect when they try out the new Support hero. Illari's weapon is a long-range Solar Rifle. Its primary fire works as one might expect, though it has a secondary fire healing beam to rejuvenate allies. Illari also has the Outburst ability, which launches her in whatever direction she's moving and can knock back enemies, like a centralized version of Pharah's Concussive Blast. And finally, Illari has a Healing Pylon at her disposal that can heal allies that are close enough to it, and her Captive Sun Ultimate ability lets her shoot a giant solar ball at enemies slows them down and eventually explodes to deal damage.

Game ZXC was able to put Illari to the test prior to the Season 6 update. Fans should think of Illari as a more aggressive take on the Support role, evidenced by the fact that her Ultimate is completely offensive in nature as is her primary fire. The bulk of Support heroes in Overwatch have their primary fires set to healing by default, which definitely makes Illari stand out. She's fun to play based on our time with her, but the real test will come when the rest of the community is able to play her for themselves.

Besides revealing Illari's abilities, Blizzard also confirmed some other interesting details about the character. Illari will be the first new hero with two different hairstyles at launch, as well as the youngest hero in the game. She's from Peru and is part of a group of powerful Solar Warriors. Illari doesn't currently have a presence in any of the game's PvE content, so it will definitely be interesting to see if she's ever added to the titular Overwatch group proper and how she might fit in the overarching narrative.

Overwatch 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox ONe, and Xbox Series X.
