Overwatch 2 has been in development for a while now. While the actual announcement of the sequel was back at Blizzcon in 2019, for some eager fans, it likely feels as though the game has been in development for much longer. Fortunately, the wait to see more details about the game is almost over, as the first multiplayer beta is less than a week away.

Starting on April 26, a select group of gamers will be able to play the multiplayer for Overwatch 2. However, it is not all good news from the developer. While the wait is almost over for some eager fans, it appears that they will have to continue waiting in order to see some characters in their Overwatch 2 redesigns.

Recently, a developer at Blizzard revealed that at least several heroes would not be receiving their new hero redesigns in time for the beta. According to Andy Belford, Community Manager for Overwatch, two notable heroes, Doomfist and Orisa, would not be donning their new looks for the game’s test run. “Just to manage expectations here, the new look for both Orisa and Doomfist are not quite ready to be shown in a gameplay reveal trailer like we normally do,” Belford commented.

Interestingly, this news comes after Blizzard announced that Orisa and Doomfist are getting major reworks in Overwatch 2. Fortunately, it appears that players will still be able to see these alterations to the characters in action. According to the developer, even though these heroes will not have their new redesigns, they will feature their new kits. With this in mind, players should still be able to get a good idea of the gameplay for the upcoming sequel.

Nevertheless, this news regarding a lack of hero redesigns for some characters is doubtlessly disappointing for some players, especially those that enjoy playing as Doomfist and Orisa. It is also disconcerting to realize that there are likely other heroes that will not be featuring their redesigns in the beta. “You’ll see in Beta that they, along with some other heroes, will still have what we call their 1.0 looks,” Belford said. Not every character redesign has been shown, meaning that there are some characters that Blizzard has yet to reveal a new look for. Based on this news, fans might have to wait longer than the April 26 beta to see several of these Overwatch 2 redesigns.

It will be interesting to see the reception to this beta for Overwatch 2 once some fans finally get a chance to try it out in a few more days. For those unable to participate in this first test run, the game is expected to have additional betas in the coming days that are supposed to be open to more gamers. Hopefully, these other trial runs will let players see the redesigns for the other characters in the game.
