The heroes of Overwatch 2 are showing off their love for shonen in a cross-promotional event with ONE's One-Punch Man series. For a limited time only, players can unlock skins and cosmetics to get into character as their favorite heroes from the satirical manga and anime.

Now through April 6th, Blizzard's flagship hero shooter is putting on its Overwatch 2 x One-Punch Man event, giving full-body costumes and dynamic poses to four of the game's most iconic heroes. All told, the event adds 10 premium cosmetics to the in-game shop, as well as 6 more to be earned for free by playing online during the event.

The Heroes Getting Their Geek On

Who's to say that even heinous villains can't express themselves through cosplay? In terms of personality, Overwatch 2's cutthroat terrorist leader Akande "Doomfist" Ogundimu could not be more different from the indifferent, hero-for-fun Saitama, but one can't deny that both are best known for their iconic fists.

Much like the manga, things wouldn't be half as interesting if Saitama were here alone. Genji pays homage to his fellow cyborg-ninja Genos, Saitama's ever-eager apprentice, while Kiriko takes to the skies as Tatsumaki, the ill-mannered esper known as Terrible Tornado.

How Much To Unlock Them

Blizzard has shown they aren't afraid to charge players a pretty penny for shiny new cosmetics, and the pricing for this event is no exception. All the cosmetics for Doomfist, Genji and Kiriko in this update are locked behind Overwatch Coins, the game's premium currency.

By default, Blizzard is asking:

  • Saitama skin alone: 1900 coins
  • Saitama item set: 3500 coins
  • Terrible Tornado skin alone: 1900 coins
  • Terrible Tornado item set: 2500 coins
  • Genos skin alone: 1900 coins
  • Genos item set: 2200 coins

One-Punch Man superfans who can't limit themselves to just one character can purchase the One-Punch Man Mega Bundle for 8200 coins, unlocking all 10 cosmetics between the three heroes.

Bundle Early And Save

For fans who have been hyped for this event, but are skeptical about the prices, now is the chance to strike. Until March 13th, all cosmetic bundles are heavily discounted:

  • Saitama item set: 2500 coins
  • Terrible Tornado item set: 2100 coins
  • Genos item set: 1900 coins
  • One-Punch Man Mega Bundle: 4400 coins

At nearly a 50% discount, the Mega Bundle is definitively the most affordable way of unlocking everything this event has to offer. Players expecting they'll want to unlock everything on offer should make up their minds soon, before the sets rise back up to their sticker price.

What This Means In Dollars

Being the game's driving source of revenue, Overwatch Coins may be purchased through the Overwatch 2 in-game store or Blizzard's Battle.net service at a rate of 100 coins per $1 USD. Purchasing coins in larger denominations grants the player more coins for their dollar:

  • $19.99 for 2200 coins
  • $49.99 for 5700 coins
  • $99.99 for 11600 coins

Players may also earn Overwatch Coins by completing weekly challenges, viewable from the main menu's Challenges tab. Up to 60 coins may be earned this way weekly, in increments of 30, 20 and 10 coins for completing 4, 8 and 11 tasks respectively.

As of this time, there is no way to redeem seasonal or legacy credits for the event's Saitama, Genos or Terrible Tornado cosmetics.

A Freemium Hero Appears

Overwatch 2 character Soldier 76 arrives in full Mumen Rider costume

As the story of One-Punch Man taught us, sometimes the biggest heroes aren't the ones with the showiest powers or most elaborate costumes. That's why all players, free-to-play and premium alike, will be able to unlock a full suite of Mumen Rider cosmetics for Soldier 76.

Players will gradually unlock the Mumen Rider item set, plus a pair of One Punch Man-themed weapon charms, just by playing the game. In order, these unlocks are:

  • 4 games: Saitama Fist weapon charm
  • 8 games: Mumen Rider name card
  • 12 games: Justice Crash highlight intro
  • 16 games: Cyclist of Justice victory pose
  • 20 games: Boros weapon charm
  • 24 games: Mumen Rider skin

As Mumen Rider can tell us, winning isn't everything, and sometimes just showing up is what matters. Victorious matches count as two games towards unlocking these cosmetics, but even the most powerless of players can unlock them all with enough persistence.

Overwatch 2 will continue its One-Punch Man promotional event through April 6th, and is available to play on Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
