Overwatch 2 is here, and one gamer has encountered a glitch that gave them Ana’s golden weapon mid-match. While the team-based hero shooter has changed in a number of ways, one thing that is the same is the inclusion of cosmetics called golden weapons.

Golden weapons have been a part of Overwatch since the original game was released in 2016, and they often symbolize accomplishment with a specific hero. These sought-after cosmetics are earned through spending 3,000 Competitive Points, which, as the same suggests, are gained through playing Competitive matches. While Overwatch 2 just came out, one player has already unlocked one of these guns, albeit unintentionally and temporarily.

During a recent game, a user known as Yama-k managed to record a clip featuring an unusual bug regarding golden weapons in Overwatch 2. The glitch happened while playing as Ana on the Garden section of Lijiang Tower, a Control map in Overwatch 2. The bug appeared as the player was on one of the bridges close to the objective. After throwing a Biotic Grenade at the ground, Ana’s Biotic Rifle suddenly changed from its standard coloration to its golden weapon variant. While the video ended shortly after this transformation, the Reddit user revealed that the golden weapon remained for the remainder of the match.

When posting the highlight to Reddit, Yama-k asked a simple question: “Is this supposed to happen?” Unsurprisingly, a number of gamers have responded, with the post gaining quite a few upvotes. Among the comments, several gamers joked about the random glitch. “Big ‘nade upgrade,” one user said, referring to the player throwing a grenade right before the bug took place. In addition, another user wondered if the golden weapon remained unlocked after the Overwatch 2 match. Yama-k responded, noting that it returned to being locked once the game had ended.

Unfortunately, this golden weapon glitch is not the only issue players have been running into since Overwatch 2 was released. Following its launch, the servers for Overwatch 2 have experienced DDoS attacks, making it difficult and, in some cases, impossible for players to log in and check out the team-based shooter. Things were so bad that the President of Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Ybarra, even sent a message acknowledging the problems and claiming that the team was working hard to resolve the complications.

Hopefully, the issues impacting Overwatch 2 can be resolved quickly, so those wanting to play the game can experience it the way the developers intended. Beyond the Season 1 Battle Pass for the free-to-play game, Blizzard has previously noted that much more content is supposed to come in the months ahead. With this in mind, there appears to be a reasonable chance that the player experience will improve in the days and weeks ahead.

Overwatch 2 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
