Overwatch 2, for all its issues at launch, seems to have a bright future ahead of it. Ramattra looks like an exciting Tank, and his debut should make Season 2 a lot of fun for players. The addition of another core multiplayer mode in 2023 could shake things up, and with PvE content still in the works, there is a lot to look forward to in the coming months. Though Blizzard has plenty to work on, one small quality of life addition for the main menu could make fans a bit happier when logging in.

With 35 different heroes to choose from, every Overwatch 2 player is bound to prefer some characters over others. Similarly, gamers are sure to dislike certain characters, finding Symmetra, Mei, or another hero annoying and wanting to see less of them. With this in mind, it only makes sense to let players have a say over who they see when they log in, as many would likely prefer to have their main present whenever they hop into the game.

Overwatch 2’s Menu Screens Have Extra Personality

Overwatch 2’s menu screens have shaken things up a bit, as a few of them are more than just static images. For example, Kiriko’s screen comes with her theme song attached, and many players loved hearing MFS’ “Bow” before their games or when they were waiting to queue into a match. The track was catchy and built up hype before starting a round of Quick Play or Competitive, and with some enjoying it more than the normal menu music, its removal brought about some disappointment.

The current main menu featuring Junker Queen also has her theme song, an original track that played at the end of her animated short. The punk rock track lacks its lyrics in-game, but the instrumental version is still distinct and stands out from the usual music gamers hear in Overwatch. With Halloween Terror having its own menu that took players through Adlersbrunn, Blizzard seems determined to change out the menu often so that things do not get stale. Unfortunately, this means that fans of the Junker Queen menu will be losing it just like Kiriko fans lost theirs, and that should change.

To solve the problem of players losing menus and songs that they enjoy, Blizzard could keep things simple and add a menu screen setting to the options menu. However, it could also treat menus as a new type of reward for players to work toward. Overwatch 2 is in desperate need of better progression, with players demanding more things to work toward. Customizable menu screens being an unmonetized aspect of the game would help, as players could unlock a screen for Mercy by doing something like winning 20 games while playing as her.

Blizzard could make things even more exciting by unvaulting old menu screens and letting players choose the music for their selected menu image. This way, those who liked seeing the entire cast on the Anniversary menu screen could unlock it for use. Further, Junker Queen’s theme and “Bow” could be listened to whenever players wanted as long as they have been unlocked. By letting players choose the image and music, Overwatch 2 would essentially have custom menus.

Obviously, Overwatch 2 has a lot more important things it needs to focus on before it even considers implementing menu options. PvE has not released, major content like Ramattra is coming soon, and gamers are still waiting on balance changes for Sojourn. Still, if Blizzard were to turn menu options into a reward players could earn just by playing, they might be a surprisingly beneficial addition to the free-to-play hero shooter.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
