With Overwatch 2 officially launching on October 4 and Overwatch prime's servers shut down, discussion around the sequel is growing. While Overwatch 2 is expected to have a variety of new skins and loot for its players, there are some items being requested more than others, such as diamond wraps for weapons.

Without a doubt, this is going to be an incredibly busy month for Activision Blizzard as the company is working to push out both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Overwatch 2. With so many changes in the works, some fans are hopeful that as both games deserve upgrades, Blizzard will bring more exciting and exclusive cosmetics to Overwatch - especially in its competitive scene.

Overwatch 2 Needs Exclusive Rewards

The original 6v6 matches in Overwatch rewarded its ranked players via Competitive Points, which was one of the in-game currencies alongside Credits. However, Competitive Points could only be spent on gold skins for character weapons, whereas Credits could be used on new Overwatch skins, voice lines, emotes, and more.

With the sequel already confirmed to be making major changes, such as getting rid of Loot Boxes in favor of a Battle Pass, it's time that Blizzard added another tier for weapon skins. If the devs want to go a step beyond, they could even add exclusive cosmetics or skins for heroes that can only be attained after competitive matches. Perhaps taking after Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Cold War, or Call of Duty Mobile by adding diamond wraps would be the simplest course of action. This would create more coveted skins for weapons, especially since Overwatch prime only offered golden weapons over the course of six years.

For most Call of Duty titles, unlocking diamond skins or cosmetics is never an easy task, as players are typically expected to grind to redeem them. Overwatch 2 should be no exception, though there are a few ways Blizzard could go about it.

Diamond wraps should still cost Competitive Points, though it would make more sense for players to have more wins in ranked games. At the moment, players still earn 10 points per win and three points per draw in Overwatch 2. It could be interesting to have these skins cost more to purchase than gold ones, perhaps doubling the price of the former.

On the other hand, they could create a similar system to Call of Duty: Black Ops II and have diamond only accessible after everything in a certain category is unlocked. In Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, a player must have all gold assault rifle weapons unlocked before they can apply Diamond Camouflage. For Overwatch 2, the same technique could apply, except with users needing to unlock all the gold weapons for heroes in the tank, damage, or support categories.

More details on the specifics of all that Overwatch 2 is going to offer are expected to come out in the following days, especially now that Overwatch's servers have shut down. However, users will be able to explore most of these opportunities on their own by October 4. It's likely Blizzard will continue to churn out more rewards and content as time progresses, which means players have much to look forward to.

Overwatch 2 launches in early access on October 4 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
