Overwatch has received a lot of praise for its diverse cast of memorable characters. Since its release, Overwatch has added over a dozen new heroes for players to experience. Some of these heroes were blessed to receive their own cinematic short films. With Overwatch 2, Blizzard continued this trend by releasing two more short films for their new heroes Junker Queen and Kiriko.
Fans have loved seeing the incredible animation and storytelling these cinematics have and are looking forward to future releases. With 36 playable characters and more to come, it's fun to speculate which of these heroes will get their own chance to have the spotlight next.
6 Sojourn
Sojourn is the newest damage hero released for Overwatch 2. She's equipped with a powerful railgun and disruptor shot to take down foes with precision and speed. Sojourn is a former Overwatch captain who fought alongside heroes like Reinhardt and Ana. As a young girl, she was stricken with a rare disease that cost her to have her limbs replaced with cybernetics.
She grew to use these enhancements for combat in the Canadian military until she eventually joined Overwatch. Her somewhat tragic backstory would make for a great cinematic short filled with heart and action.
5 Torbjorn
Torbjorn is one of the original Overwatch damage heroes. He uses his rivet gun alongside his turrets to apply a constant stream of damage to his opponents. Torbjorn is a master engineer and weaponsmith who was recruited to the original Overwatch team. He lost his eye and arm in battle but was saved by Reinhardt.
This led to him allowing Reinhardt to name his daughter Brigitte and become her godfather. Torbjorn's story with Reinhardt and his daughter could be easily adapted into an excellent short film if Blizzard wanted to.
4 Baptiste
Baptiste is a support hero that was released in 2018. He is a veteran combat medic who uses an array of experimental equipment to keep his teammates alive while keeping his enemies down. Baptiste was an orphan of the omnic crisis who developed a need to help people. After fighting as a combat medic for the Caribbean special forces, he resorted to working as a mercenary for Talon to get easy money.
Working for Talon, he slowly began to realize the cycle of violence they create and chose to turn against them. Baptiste's story would give fans a better understanding of how the villainous Talon manipulates good people into doing their dirty work if he got his own short film.
3 Sigma
Sigma is a tank character and was the tenth new hero added to Overwatch. He is a brilliant astrophysicist who devoted his life to devising a way to harness the power of gravity. During an experiment with black holes at the International Space Station, something went horribly wrong and he suffered extreme psychological damage.
After being evacuated, the government took him and gave him the name Subject Sigma because of the strange gravitational anomalies happening around him. While imprisoned, Talon learned of his existence and broke him out, offering him a job to work for them. With Talon, Sigma has been turned into a weapon for their own benefit. Sigma's tragic story would make for an intense psychologically thrilling short film.
2 Wrecking Ball
Wrecking Ball is another tank and the seventh hero added to Overwatch. He is a hamster named Hammond who was a part of genetic-altering experiments done at the Horizon Lunar Colony moon base. Most of the experiments were done on primates but Hammond was an exception. Hammond was given a substantial increase in both size and intelligence. While on the base, he used his newly acquired intelligence to learn engineering and mechanics.
During an uprising from fellow animal experiments, Hammond used a mech ball he built in secret to hitch a ride on Winston's escape shuttle to Earth. He ended up landing in the wasteland of Australia where he used his mech to fight alongside Junker Queen as a champion of the Junkertown. Wrecking Ball is a cute and lovable character who would make for a fun short.
1 Ramattra
Ramattra is a tank and the newest hero added to Overwatch 2. He is an omnic that was built as a ravager for war. He only ever wanted a better future for his people and after the war, he pursued a life as a monk in Nepal. There he met Zenyatta, a fellow omnic who became like a brother to him. As time wore on, Ramattra failed to see how the monk's message of peace and coexisting was working and he began to develop a hatred for humans.
Now believing the only way to seek justice for his people is through violence, he left the monastery and cut all contact with Zenyatta. After leaving the monks, Ramattra recruited other omnics with his beliefs to form Null Sector. Null Sector started as a small organization but grew to become a fierce militarized extremist group. Ramattra's story of brotherhood and betrayal with Zenyatta would make for a powerful and emotional journey not unlike Genji and Hanzo's short film.
