Cassidy's magnetic grenade ability in Overwatch 2 represents just one of the many character tweaks made in the sequel, and it hasn't ceased to annoy fans of the game since it launched in October last year. This sticky explosive weapon was intended to be an upgrade from the gunslinging Overwatch 2 character's earlier flashbang grenade, which itself was famed for giving Cassidy players a pretty unfair advantage at times.

Replacing Cassidy's flashbang grenade in Overwatch 2, his magnetic grenade seeks and sticks to targets at a medium range instead of simply subduing them on impact. The ability itself is capable of delivering some hefty damage to most heroes in the game save for tanks, with the grenade dealing 130 points of blast damage along with 1 extra point of damage upon initially sticking an enemy. Combined with a single body shot from Cassidy's Peacekeeper revolver, this is enough to almost instantly eliminate a foe with 200 health points. While this may seem somewhat outrageous in itself, the real problem for players is the grenade's often ridiculous tracking capabilities, with players even getting stuck by the grenade through walls occasionally.

It's not uncommon to see clips shared by members of the community highlighting how generous this grenade's seeking can be, with one player named Lukas0513 on Reddit sharing one experience via a post on the site. This video shows the player taking down half of the enemy team as Genji, only for his streak to be shut down by the enemy Cassidy's magnetic grenade which followed the player from a distance even while they were backing away from it. Players have frequently expressed their frustration for moments like these since the ability was introduced to the game. Blizzard are more than likely aware of this consensus, as the Overwatch 2 developers recently shared a joking video of what the ability would look like if it could seek out Mei players anywhere on a map.

Cassidy's new upgraded grenade is just one of the many tweaks made to existing characters in Overwatch 2. Some characters from the original game saw complete overhauls to their capabilities, with Orisa receiving an almost entirely different kit in the sequel and Doomfist being moved from a damage hero to a tank. It's safe to say that players have adjusted well to the majority of these heroes' new kits by now, along with the abilities wielded by some of the game's newer heroes as well.

Even though the game is almost half a year old already, Overwatch 2 still bears many glaring issues in the eyes of many fans. Hero balancing in particular remains to be a point of contention, a task which only appears to become more challenging as more heroes are added to the game. While there's certainly quite a bit to be done in this regard, Cassidy's magnetic grenade still comes up as a common complaint, and many fans hope that Blizzard makes some substantial changes to it in the future.

Overwatch 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
