Blizzard may be making changes to Moira and Brigitte in Overwatch 2 before long. Despite the recent launch of Overwatch 2 and its substantial changes to the previous game's balance, Blizzard has taken a very cautious approach to patching the game since. That doesn't mean that Blizzard isn't watching closely, however. It's talked about adjustments it's considering for Overwatch 2's season change, for example, and now it's talking about more substantial changes to two of Overwatch 2's supports.

Up until now, Blizzard's public comments regarding balance have largely revolved around addressing criticism and potential balance changes. For example, Blizzard has provided possible changes for Sombra, Genji, Zarya, D.Va, and Kiriko, that are primarily small adjustments to cooldowns, ability durations, or ammo. Blizzard isn't solely focused on small balance changes, though. It's also thinking about larger changes and which heroes could have entire abilities altered.

Speaking with GamerBraves, Blizzard was asked if it had any hero reworks currently in development. Blizzard didn't confirm any reworks akin to what happened for the launch of Overwatch 2, but it did point to both Moira and Brigitte as targets for potential substantial changes. Moira, according to Blizzard, could see "a little bit of utility" added to her kit. Blizzard's focus for Brigitte is her Ultimate ability, Rally. Neither will be changed immediately, but Blizzard says it's thinking of both characters as recipients for changes further down the road.

It's easy to see where Blizzard's focus is. Moira is seen as strong right now, simply due to her ability to pump out high numbers for both healing and damage. Winning games of Overwatch 2 can often be due to more complex actions, though. Lucio's movement buff, Mercy's resurrections, Brigitte's boops, and Kiriko landing just one perfect headshot are examples of utility that can win games. Moria lacks an intangible like that.

Brigitte's Rally ability is by no means weak, especially when teammates know to gather around her while she's using it, but it also doesn't feel impactful when it's used. Players press the button and trust their team to use the extra shield tactically. Maybe the team wins as a result, maybe they don't, and whether the Rally made a difference isn't always clear. An Ultimate with punch would fit Brigitte's kit better.

At the heart of both changes is a bigger issue for Blizzard: Overwatch 2 is lacking Support players. It can add more dynamic Supports in the future, and Kiriko is a good start, but if it can make existing supports like Moira and Brigitte feel more exciting and impactful to play in the meantime, then that's the right thing to do. Maybe those changes will happen in 2023.

Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
