Overwatch 2 is doing a lot of interesting things. In PvP, a controversial switch to 5v5 is being made, with the decision requiring major reworks of several heroes. For PvE, an incredibly deep co-op campaign is being added, with hundreds of side missions and deep skill trees available for each member of the roster. New maps and heroes will be coming in Overwatch 2 as well, with a brand-new game mode called Push also in the works.

While Overwatch fans wait on larger info drops, Blizzard has been revealing hero redesigns from time to time. The sequel is bringing fresh looks for every hero, with some Overwatch 2 redesigns being major and others being simple. All make smart improvements, though, whether it is Widowmaker getting more protective gear or Mei donning an outfit that makes sense outside of winter environments. The latest redesign focuses on Bastion, fans that look at it closely can make an interesting connection to another well-known hero.

What Makes Bastion’s Overwatch 2 Look Different

Bastion follows in the path of heroes like Tracer and Winston in the sense that very little is changing about his appearance. While someone like Baptiste looks extremely different in the new game, Bastion only gets a color swap and some small little adjustments to his appearance. In the sequel, Bastion will mostly be light green, with his chest and head being the only two parts of his body that remain white. Aside from this new paint job, his gun looks a bit different, as it has a completely different barrel and optic from the original. It is also green, matching his new color scheme.

The two biggest changes to Bastion’s design are seen on his upper half, and fans of Overwatch’s lore should appreciate both additions. On his left shoulder, there is a special pad that differs from the one on his right. This pad is colored green and has some black feathers painted onto it, making it clear that this is meant to be a comfortable perch for Ganymede. Given how important Bastion’s companion is to him, it is nice to see Blizzard including a nod to their relationship. However, the other touch is far more interesting, as it could have some serious implications. On top of Bastion’s head, a hat with Torbjorn’s insignia can be spotted.

What Bastion’s Affiliation With Torbjorn Could Mean

Bastion is wearing the same hat that Torbjorn does in the Uprising mission from Overwatch’s Archives event, suggesting that the two have bonded in the time between the two games. For starters, this new friendship could play an important part in the story. Reinhardt’s hatred for Omnics, particularly the ones like Bastion, will surely lead to a conflict when the two meet. Part of this meeting has seemingly been shown in footage from Overwatch 2’s PvE campaign, meaning that fans will see it play out whenever the game finally launches. With Torbjorn being close friends with Reinhardt, he could get the hulking knight to back down, stopping a fight with Bastion before it ever begins.

Outside of Torbjorn vouching for Bastion, the partnership that this hat suggests could perfectly explain Bastion’s major Overwatch 2 rework. With the hero being too niche and rarely getting used by skilled players, Blizzard has confirmed that some changes will be made to give him a more mobile moveset. While the developer could make these changes with no story explanation, the idea that Torbjorn is behind them seems too good to pass up on. If the two really do become friends, Torbjorn’s talent at making his own turrets could allow him to upgrade Bastion with ease.

The final thing worth noting about the Torbjorn hat is that it opens the door for some fresh Bastion skins in Overwatch 2. Blizzard always aims to keep character silhouettes the same with its alternate skins, meaning that players will rarely see elements added to an outfit that make it tough to read which hero is being fought. With a hat now being part of Bastion’s regular appearance, it can be assumed that his alternate skins will also feature headwear of some kind. While this redesign is subtle, it does provide some major story hints while also giving players an idea of how cosmetics could be changing for Bastion.

Overwatch 2 is in development for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
