In the years since its initial announcement, very few details have been revealed about Overkill's The Walking Dead. However, Overkill has recently been more open about what fans can expect from the upcoming first-person shooter, revealing that not only will the game have dedicated story missions and 4-player co-op, but it will have raids as well.

It remains to be seen how raids will work in Overkill's The Walking Dead, or if they will even be "raids" in the traditional video game sense. In a press release, Overkill said that "players will band together with up to three friends on a variety of missions and raids, securing supplies and survivors to strengthen their base camp against the threat of both the dead and the living - by any means necessary."

The language in the press release can be interpreted in a couple of different ways. Since raids are grouped together with missions as a player activity, it could indicate that players will be participating in dedicated raids, not unlike the ones seen in games like Destiny. Alternatively, given the post-apocalyptic setting of The Walking Dead, "raids" could refer to smaller side missions or activities where players simply loot areas for supplies.

At this point, it's hard to say when we will learn more definitive details about how raids will work in Overkill's The Walking Dead. Right now the studio seems focused on introducing fans to the four playable characters by releasing a dedicated story trailer for each one. So far, the only character that has received a trailer is Aidan, though the trailer for the next character could come during The Walking Dead TV show's mid-season premiere in February, if not earlier.

After all four playable characters have been properly introduced, Overkill may focus on promoting other aspects of the game, like its story missions and raids. But since the game's planned launch date is still nearly a year away, more detailed information on its gameplay may not come until E3 2018 in June.

Overkill's The Walking Dead will launch in fall 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
