Despite their relatively underground status, the Outlast games are considered to be some of the most terrifying to ever grace a PC or console hard-drive. Since 2013, the first game has been petrifying players with its night-vision mechanics and disturbing content. With the upcoming Outlast Trials being one of the most anticipated horror games of the year, developer Red Barrels teases more content on its Twitter page.

In a recent post, the Canadian studio uploaded a couple of concept art images showing a new enemy from Outlast Trials accompanied by the quote "I'll make you pretty" in a twisted fashion that has become synonymous with the series. The images depict a human-esque being, donning some makeshift goggles and a number of metal contraptions around his wrists and one around his ankle. It also appears that his right-hand has been removed. One of the images also shows a close-up of one of the contraptions, which could either be some form of restraint, or a blunt weapon, or both.

Outlast Trials was revealed at the end of 2019. Sadly, since then, not much is known about what systems the game will be available on, or when it's actually coming out. It's known that the game will take place during the Cold War era, and that it will be a multiplayer game, though the studio did confirm that there will be a single-player campaign as well.

So far, fans have been teased with other concept art, as well as a trailer which is unmistakably set in the Oultast universe, particularly with its violent imagery and use of night-vision throughout the footage. Outside that, Red Barrels has kept fairly quiet about the development phase of the third game. What is fairly certain is that this new game will be just as frightening and sadistic as the previous two. The Outlast games have a roster of chilling characters that make the games stand out as a testament to the power of horror and good character design.

Despite the horror that dwells being what everyone remembers, the Outlast games are also known for their stealth mechanics. There is, after all, nothing more terrifying than creeping around in the dark, wondering when an enemy will strike next, and having nothing for protection except a night-vision camera and a few places to hide. This new character looks like he will continue to perpetuate the terror that the series is infamous for, even in multiplayer co-op mode.

Outlast Trials is currently in development for undisclosed platforms.
