Oshi No Ko is mangaka Aka Akasaka’s latest work. It is a mystery thriller that follows the adventures of twin siblings Aqua and Ruby Hoshino, as they make their way in Japan’s entertainment industry and grow as an idol and actor. Whilst Ruby’s dream of becoming an idol is pure, Aqua has ulterior motives, and the series showcases both siblings as they come to term with the hardships of working in this industry.

The Oshi No Ko Manga has been well received and is one of the top series of 2023, currently sitting at 13 volumes and ongoing. Released in Spring 2023, season 1 of the anime has also performed well, and fans have recently received confirmation that season 2 is along the way. Season 1 is 11 episodes long, with the first around movie length, and it spans around the first 40 chapters of the manga.

What Happened In Oshi No Ko Season 1?

Oshi No Ko season 1 starts off when otaku gynecologist Gorou Amemiya is pushed off a cliff by a stalker after Ai Hoshino, an idol under his care at the clinic. To his surprise, he wakes up reincarnated as Aqua, one of the twins Ai gave birth to. Alongside his sister Ruby, another reincarnated fan, they support their mother in her idol activities until she meets her untimely death, at the hands of the same stalker who inadvertently murdered Gorou.

From the second episode, the story follows a now teenager Aqua and Ruby Hoshino. She is now following her dream to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become an idol, and Aqua is on a quest to avenge his mother’s death. As he believes the person to have given his mother’s address to the stalker to be his father, he has also entered the entertainment industry himself and become an actor. He knows his father is likely in this industry due to his mother’s secrecy surrounding his identity and as he works jobs, he plans on testing his dna against suspects until he finds a match.

This leads him to participate in the dating show LoveNow, just as Ruby is starting her career as an idol in the new B-Komachi, her mother’s old group. As the dating show comes to a close, he learns his co-star method actress Akane is capable of great insight into Ai’s way of thinking, and he decides to get close to her to gain knowledge about who his mother may have dated. The season ends with Ruby’s debut performance, alongside Kana, another young actress, and Mem, an influencer Aqua met on LoveNow.

What Will Happen in Oshi No Ko Season 2?

At the end of season 1, Aqua has discovered that his father was likely part of the LaLaLai Theatre Group, the same group Akane is part of. Just as he was searching for an in, he and Kana get cast for a play alongside the LaLaLai Actors, an opportunity he jumps at in the hopes of discovering more about his father’s identity. In the Oshi No Ko manga, the arc which features this show is 24 chapters long, and as it is the next big arc after the LoveNow arc and B-Komachi’s concert, the Oshi No Ko season 2 anime will likely focus on it.

If season 2 follows the Oshi No Ko manga, the season will likely offer valuable insight into both the manga and the screenwriting industries, shedding light on the multitude of factors necessary to achieve a high-level adaptation of manga source material. As a screenwriter and mangaka attempt to reach an agreement on a 2.5D Theater adaptation script, the manga arc sees Aqua improving his acting as he prepares to perform in this high-profile show. During the rehearsals, he gets caught up in a love triangle with Akane and Kana, and as their professional rivalry reaches new levels, it allows both actresses to grow in their attempts to surpass each other. He also manages to further his quest for revenge, getting closer than ever to the truth.

Season 2 is set to release sometime in 2024, though as of yet there is no set premiere date. Nonetheless, as a teaser was recently released at the Ichigo Production ☆ Fan Appreciation Festival 2023, fans are certain more news will come soon.
