Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight has become a fan-favorite in the MCU. Many were disappointed to not hear any updates regarding season 2 of the Disney Plus and Marvel Studios television show, but now it looks like fans have nothing to worry about because Moon Knight is very likely to return.

Marvel Studios' Moon Knight established itself as its own story. The character is typically seen interacting with other heroes of the universe in his comic book storylines, but fans have yet to see that in the live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) adaptation. Following the release of Werewolf by Night, many fans have begun to anticipate the arrival of the Midnight Suns, which is a group of superheroes that battles enemies of the supernatural variety. The Midnight Suns are due for a video game release later this year, which is sure to bring these much more obscure heroes into the spotlight.

While speaking at New York Comic Con, Isaac was asked about a Moon Knight season 2 and replied, "I don't think it's...all I can say is that it's not the last we've heard of the system that is Moon Knight." This means the second season of Moon Knight or an appearance in different Marvel Studios projects remains unclear. The first season left on a pretty big cliffhanger for the character, so many would love to see Isaac continue and see where Khonshu fits in among the other deities in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The use of the word "system" has implications about the mantle of the character rather than the person under the hood. This means that Khonshu may find a new avatar to represent the moon god and fight on Khonshu's behalf. Another possibility is that Marvel Studios will find another actor to replace Isaac who can serve as an alternate reality version of the character. Marvel Studios has introduced the multiverse concept in their movies, so the possibilities are endless for them to recast any number of characters. The idea of recasting has been the subject of debate for many fans regarding Black Panther 2.

Regardless of what they decide, fans should rest assured that this won't be the last time they see the mantle of Moon Knight in action. Whether it's a younger successor similar to Ironheart or the return of the same character played by Isaac, fans can rest assured knowing that the character is being treated with care.

Moon Knight season 1 is now available on Disney Plus.
