The developer of 2015’s award-winning platforming game Ori and the Blind Forest has posted an intriguing job advertisement that reveals the company’s next focus will be an action RPG.

Moon Studios is currently looking for a senior game designer to help the studio “revolutionize the ARPG genre.” The job description specifies that the developer is searching for people with a particular love of games such as Diablo, Dark Souls, and The Legend of Zelda series. The ideal candidate will have studied role-playing games extensively and be able to help push the genre beyond what games have offered in the past.

A simple love of RPGs will not suffice for would-be employees, however. Applicants must have prior games industry experience with at least two professional titles already under their belt. The ideal designer will also be able to intuitively zero in on weak points in a game’s design and know how to improve upon them.

One possible perk for those seeking employment with Moon Studios is the fact that the company follows the distributed workforce model, meaning all employees work remotely. This opens up the field for interested applicants from all over the world and allows the studio to fill their team with top talent no matter their location. However, employees will still have the opportunity to touch base with their colleagues at the company’s annual retreats.

Moon Studios is a small, independent game development company founded in 2010 by two industry veterans, Thomas Mahler and Gennadiy Korol. They have released one title to date, Ori and the Blind Forest, which follows the adventures of an orphaned guardian spirit named Ori as he works to restore his forest home that is dying after a cataclysmic event. The studio is also currently working on the game’s sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, which is planned for release on PC and Xbox One on March 11, 2020.

The games created by Moon Studios thus far are considered Metroidvania platormers, a subcategory of the action-adventure genre that features game design and mechanics commonly used in both the Metroid and Castlevania series. The very distinctive and alluring artistic style of the Ori games, however, makes them unique in the genre.

Ori and the Blind Forest is available on PC, Xbox One, and Switch.
