A new cooperative multiplayer game is coming to PlayStation platforms, Sony announced alongside developer Clever Plays Studio on Wednesday morning. Operation: Tango is an asymmetrical co-op game in which two players complete puzzle-based missions, with each executing dramatically different roles. Co-op gamers will be able to check out Operation: Tango on their PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 this spring.

The two roles in Operation: Tango are the agent and the hacker. The agent's gameplay takes place in the game's real world, while the hacker's gameplay takes place in a digital environment. The two will have to communicate verbally in order to solve their respective tasks and solve progressively more difficult puzzles. Both players experience the game from a first-person perspective, but neither will be seeing the same thing.

As for the full scope of Operation: Tango's gameplay, it isn't clear. The trailer and introduction from Clever Plays Studio doesn't fully delve into what a full puzzle might look like. High-speed chases and late-night office break-ins are mentioned, however it's unclear whether that means the Agent character will have to perform some action-heavy sequences or if these are just premises for more methodical puzzles.

One other interesting detail that's mentioned in Operation: Tango's trailer is that the co-op game will work cross-gen. The trailer says it takes two to complete a mission, whether players pick agent or hacker, or whether they play cross-gen on PS4 or PS5. As for other platforms, ports may be announced after whatever exclusivity window has been arranged with Sony.

Operation: Tango releases spring 2021 on PS4 and PS5.
