With the recent success of Avatar: The Way of Water in cinemas it is of no surprise that gamers are once again looking forward to the release of the action-adventure open-world title being created by Ubisoft under the name of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. As there is no release date in sight many players may wish to look for other titles to enjoy in the meantime.

The upcoming Avatar title is described as an open-world game, allowing fans of the franchise to freely explore Pandora. Players may wish to embark on other open-world games that will keep them occupied until an official release date as well as other news about the game is given.

10 Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Due to Ubisoft being a crucial part of the team making the upcoming action-adventure title, players may wish to experience the other successful games that have been released by the other teams from the developers.

Although Ubisoft is partnering with Massive Entertainment that has also made the likes of The Division 2 and Far Cry 3, Assassin's Creed Valhalla is much closer to what many players may imagine Avatar: Frontier of Pandora will play like especially due to the large jungle environments and the agility of the Na'Vi people.

9 God Of War Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok may not be an open-world title in the traditional sense especially as players must teleport between different realms in order to visit the different areas of the map. However, outside the story players are able to explore these locations freely to their hearts' content making it a semi-open-word experience.

Besides the beauty of many of the locations being similar to the already revealed teaser trailer of Avatar as well as the screenshots given, players can expect to explore a beautiful planet that rivals the realms of God of War.

8 Outer Wilds

Outer Wilds Giving Up is the only way to truly lose the game

While being the most unlike what could be expected of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, overall the Na'Vi species are an alien race, and therefore they link heavily with the themes of sci-fi. For those hoping to scratch their alien itch with a relaxing open-world game with a more easy-going story, Outer Wilds is certainly a game to pick up.

As expected while exploring space players will find aliens to communicate with but most importantly beautiful planets players must explore in hopes to find a solution to the time loop they find themselves trapped in.

7 V Rising

In the upcoming action-adventure title fans of the franchise will be able to experience what they have always dreamed of becoming, and that is being part of the Na'Vi people. This means that according to Ubisoft players will be exploring Pandora while being a huge blue cat-like person.

V Rising is similar as players explore this open-world survival as a newly awoken vampire. They therefore must learn how to explore and survive safely as a vampire while also avoiding the dangers such as the forever appearing daylight hours and other foes that may wish to destroy them.

6 No Man's Sky

No Man's Sky is a space opera with (literally) infinite possibilities

Similar to the Outer Worlds, No Man's Sky allows players to explore the wonders of space freely, with an interesting story that players may wish to follow. Other than that players are free to travel between a wonder of planets and solar systems until they find one that best fits where they would want to place a base.

Although none of the planets may look like Pandora, this doesn't stop players from finding some beautiful environments to explore as well as some fascinating creatures to examine and perhaps even tame.

5 Subnautica

On the other side of the scale, players may wish to focus on one alien planet which is mostly covered in water. Like how Jake and his family had to learn to adapt in Avatar: The Way of Water, the player must learn how to survive in the dangerous ocean of Subnautica where there is no land to be seen.

Although underwater, Subnautica is still a beautiful game, and exploring all the amazingly created wildlife as well as expanding the player's underwater base will certainly keep many occupied until the release of Avatar.

4 Red Dead Redemption 2

For players not only looking for an open-world experience but also a game with an amazing story then they should look no further than Red Dead Redemption 2. This game set in the wild west explores the life of Arthur Morgan an outlaw who's a part of the Van Der Linde gang as they attempt to escape the law.

Besides being able to freely travel by horse across an authentic look at the west while deciding if Arthur is going to continue his outlaw ways through robbing trains and stores, or leaving the majority of that behind.

3 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Geralt fights the Ice Giant

Another great open-world experience players should try while waiting for Avatar is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Although the third title in the franchise, many players will still be able to enjoy exploring as Geralt without needing knowledge of the past titles.

Exploring as a monster hunter in this well throughout the world brought to life by CD Projekt Red is sure to keep players distracted as Ubisoft works. Not to mention that recently the game got a next-generation update that entirely remastered the graphics of the game making it an even more beautiful world to travel through.

2 Ark: Survival Evolved

Prehistoric dinosaurs can also match the vibe of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, especially as this open-world survival allows the players to tame dangerous dinosaurs to use in not only combat but also to travel through the thick jungle environments.

Although not much has been yet revealed about Avatar, it can be expected that players will be using the Toruk, which are the giant dinosaur-like birds many Na'Vi use in battle, to explore Pandora. Besides this, many of the maps in Ark contain thick forests which will prepare players for Pandora.

1 Horizon Forbidden West

Aloy in Horizon Forbidden West

A great open-world action-adventure for players to experience before the release of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is definitely Horizon Forbidden West. Set in a post-apocalyptic version of the US players get to explore further west in the second title of Horizon where they meet even more challenging robotic animal foes to defeat as well as all new environments to explore.

Besides how visually pleasing the game is, Aloy and the task at hand to save the planet from its own destruction make for a great story that many players will enjoy experiencing between eventful side quests.
